This controversial painting by German artist Quint Buchholz features a young person walking a tightrope from the roof of a house. He is holding the other end of the rope. It might be either dusk or dawn.
There are just so many possibilities of meaning to this wonderful illustration, that we had to offer it to you! Does he create his own path? Does it simply present itself to him as necessary? Is he leaving home? or, just another building?
We think it perfect for a graduation sentiment that you might add. Or, use our Postcard Frame and settle it on your desk for inspiration.

Art Postcard - I am grateful...
Under a provocative illustration of a older man inflating balloon, or perhaps, the moon, it reads
I am grateful to all those people who said no. It is because of them I did it myself.
This wonderful black and white postcard might be just perfect for graduation as well. What good advice in a retrospective thought.
The line drawn illustration is by Joe D'Esposito. The card is by Franklin Greenwald.

The pendant, including the loop from which it hangs measures 1-3/4 inch high by 1-3/4 inch wide. The prayer is lightly highlighted with oxidation, but at first glance, it appears to be a simple design or filigree.

Silvery Saint Clare Medal
More Medals & Milagros
St Clare was the daughter of nobles and found her calling with God. She was highly influenced by Francis of Assisi and confided in him that she would like to devote her life to God. She founded the Convent of the Poor Clares, a religious order of nuns who settled near the Franciscans throughout Europe.
Later in life, when she was too ill to attend Mass, it is said that the image of the mass would appear on her convent cell wall. For that reason, she has become the Patron Saint of Television.

Rick Allen and his creative partner and wife Marian Lansky produce a miscellany of curious engravings and various and sundry other printed ephemerae. Rick's work has reached and perplexed a diverse audience. His illustrations have appeared in national magazines, annuals of illustration and even on a book cover for John LeCarre!
Rick attended a lot of reputable institutions of higher learning over many years but they couldn't really do much with him, so he's largely self-taught as an artist and printmaker and nobody else can really be held responsible. And responsible he is for this gorgeous notecard:
Be as a Bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, Still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.
Victor Hugo
The inside is blank for your own message.
Each 5 by 7 inch card is printed on a white uncoated, recycled paper with soy based inks, and is accompanied by an appropriate envelope for mailing.

Nick Wroblewski is a Midwest-based printmaker specializing in hand-cut wood block prints. His images are depictions of the natural world, carved from large blocks of wood and printed one color at a time. He uses a traditional method of carving away more material as the print progresses, resulting in the eventual elimination of the textured image on the block. He is very interested in art that is hand hewn, art that shows the gesture of a landscape, and art that speaks to the dynamic energy shared between all life.
How perfect this advice for anyone:
Walk tall as the trees Live strong as the mountain Be gentle as the spring wind Keep the warmth of the summer sun in your heart and the great spirit will always be with you. -Ojibwa

Note Card: Play the Keys
More Music
Susan Mrosek is the astonishing artist of these absolutely wonderful cards! Her advice is always meant for pondering:
We must play all the keys, seek the tunes only we can hear, and deliver them to those outside our box
At first we read this as we must all play the keys - well, now that's certainly important. But, even better, Ms Mrosek reminds us to we must play ALL the keys - even more important. Such encouragement might just make all of the difference in the world to someone. And, she suggest that we have the courage to share the music as well - even when it is not comfortable! Such handsome advice!

Smashed Penny featuring the Serenity Prayer
Smashed Penny - Lord's Prayer
Milagros, Talismans & Amulets
More Pocket Tokens
Coins like these have many names, but our favorite is smashed pennies, aka elongated pennies and pressed pennies. The first elongated penny was created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus during 1892-1893. There are some who believe that there were such coins produced earlier, but the experts have singled this celebration as the beginning.
A smashed penny is is made by forcing a penny (or other coin) through two steel rollers. There is an engraving on one of the rollers (sometimes both sides). A crank (mechanical or electronic) forces the coin through the rollers and squeezes it with extreme pressure. This smashes the coin from round to ...you guessed it...elongated. The pressure pushes the engraving into the penny at the same time it is smashing it.
We've been collecting these since we were children, and now our grandchildren collect them, too. Made from shiny pre-1983 pennies, there is a higher copper content than if created with today's pennies. The prayer reads:
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.
Because they are smashed in the process of impressing the prayer, they are super thin, yet sturdy. The new oval shape measures about 1-5/16 long and about 13/16 wide. This makes a wonderful keepsake for your wallet or pocket. And, it's a lovely little token to give a friend.

Camp at Sunset Note Card
Artist Jim Brandenburg is famous for his stunning photographs that capture the beauty and magic of the natural world. He is one of the premier wildlife photographers in the world, and a dedicated environmentalist. He has won numerous international awards for his work.
Jim derives intense satisfaction from his life-long commitment to explore and understand the wilderness. Sharing his love for the natural world and telling its stories are what motivates him during his long treks in the wilderness.
The silence of the woods echoes the so thoughtful sentiment from Henry David Thoreau:
I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Saint Agatha Medal - Patron Saint of Breast Cancer
Pink Crystal Awareness Charm
Saint Agatha was a young, beautiful and rich woman who devoted her life to God. Before she was martyred around 250 AD, she was sent by the cruel rulers to work in a brothel where she refused to accept customers.
She was punished severely and her torturers were so evil that they focused their torture on her breasts and made her roll on hot coals. Because of her terrifying sacrifice, she has become the Patron of those who suffer breast cancer.
Our medal is made of silvery metal in Italy.

be who You will Note Card
Illustrator dug Nap is famous for his bold style evoking a contemporary burst of living out loud fun! On the outside, he declares:
be who You will
The inside is blank for your own message - perfect for a special friend, or someone on the brink of something new!
dug's cards are printed on coated recycled paper with soy-based inks and measure 5 by 7 inches. Of course, an envelope accompanies the card.

For those who have the courage to express themselves and, as well, for those who don't, we love this gloriously blue pendant featuring a super individual with a gothic face, a boom-box playing the music of a different drummer. Only the hand and face are showing. The background of vintage letters and numbers adds a suitably philosophical air to this striking image.
