Vintage Die Cut Scraps - Swedish Dala Horse Set
More Vintage Die Cuts, Dresdens & Scraps
More Horses & Donkeys
Unique in that these scraps are from Sweden, these craft horses are known as Swedish Dala horses -lovely carved horses they have been icons of Swedish folk art since the early 1800s.
We are consistently charmed that so many pieces of folk art around the world are similar to folk art half a world away! We think the little Dala horses resemble Mexican burro piñatas.
Each scrap set features an orange and a blue horse as pictured, with flowers in the background. The two scraps are connected, but can be trimmed apart, if you choose. These have been printed on matte paper and the colors are vibrantly delicious. Scraps like these are quite rare. We believe them to be from the 1930s or 1940s.
The entire piece measures 9-1/4 inches from left to right, and 6-1/8 inches high. The piece arrives folded at the burros' noses as originally created.

Vintage Raw Brass Stamping - Horse with Horseshoes
More Components
More Vintage
More Horses
More Gambling
More Good Luck
Created from raw brass, these vintage horse stampings are quite nice. Their patina from natural aging is hard to match with pseudo-aging agents. So, we think these are quite usable as is. Of course, you can alter them in any manner you please.
Each motif measures 1-3/8 inch wide and 1-1/4 inch from top to bottom. The horseshoes each face inward, which we hope is lucky, but we can't be sure!
The motif has a raised profile and a hollow back.

Adjustable Silver Plate & Cord Bridle Bracelet
More Jewelry Components
More Bracelets
Some believe that the bridle represents the virtue of self-control and that wearing it is a reminder to consider consequences before action. We think it lovely with or without that belief - especially for horse lovers.
The cord is adjustable by spreading the self-knots together (smaller) or apart (larger). The widest is 7-1/2 inches in diameter.
You might also consider removing the cord and using the bridle as a focal point in a bracelet or necklace. It might also be nice to add to a memory project that features horses!

Vintage Pressed Glass Charm - BLUE Stylized Horse Profile
More Charms
More Vintage Items
Originally sold in the Five & Dime stores back in the 1920s and 1930s, this very special pressed glass charm was made in Japan. It measures about 3/8 inch in diameter - not including the little loop.
The color in the glass is slightly variegated, with the main color of each charm is a gorgeous light blue. Even the string is original (the color of the string may vary from the one pictured).
These are new old stock - never used. We even found them in the original box marked Made in Japan. These were manufactured as a novelty - perhaps for a little girl's charm bracelet, so please allow for some variability.

Vintage Glass Belmont Seventh Race Ticket Intaglio Cabochon
Created using a ticket from the Belmont racetrack in New York, this cool little cabochon measures 1-1/8 inch by 7/8 inch and it's about 1/8 thick. Each preserves an image of a ticket for the 7th race for the strangely named horse, ZzCUM. These are old stock intaglio cabochons that have never been used. The one in the illustration is in perfect condition. However, many of these show some wear. You might want to reinforce the back (bottom) of the stone before you use it in your artwork. We like the shabby chic look of the missing pieces of the ticket. Each one reads:
BELMONT 410 100 100 100 ZzCUM ONE 1 1 ONE SEVENTH (7) RACE 7 MAY 55
Around the edges, it reads WIN WIN WIN on either side.

Vintage Horseshoe-Shaped Tobacco Tag
More Vintage Stuff
More Smoking
We bought these from someone who declared that her 97-year-old grandfather told her that his mother used to chew tobacco and she saved these horseshoe plug tags.
These tags were used around the early 1900s to mark plugs of tobacco - tobacco for chewing. Around that time, it was made by pressing cured tobacco leaves together in a molasses-based or other sweet syrup. This was a hand-on process. Customers would cut, or even bite off, a piece of the plug to chew.
Tags like these were used to identify the plug manufacturer. Although many such tags bore the name of the tobacco grower or producer, these do not. Most of these are quite rusty. The points bend under to attach them to the tobacco, or of course, to your project! Some of the points are bent backward already, so please be careful - the points are sharp!

Art Postcard - Cowboy Crate Label
More Postcards
More Wild West & Rodeo
Collectible crate labels are used in all kinds of artwork, but we think this one makes a great postcard, too. Featuring a western cowboy riding his trusted companion horse, this label identified orange crates from the Tustin Hills Citrus Association of Tustin, California (abbreviated as Calif. on the card). He is riding fast and hard to lasso that orange. The original label hails from the 1930s.

Handmade Amulet for Luck and Love
More Amulets & Shrine Items
This large Mexican packet amulet is decorated with so very many meaningful items that it is hard to describe! The centerpiece is a herradura (magnetic horseshoe) wrapped with colorful rayon thread. Round, flower and leaf sequins are spread throughout. The horseshoe faces downward in the middle of the red paper covered heart. It frames a holy picture of San Martin Caballero the patron of luck and money. Wooden crosses are at each of the top corners.
This special amulet also contains wheat stalks, golden threads and seeds. The small packet covered in velvet usually contains wheat seeds or grain, representing gold dust - or, seeds of the Job's tears plant for protection.
Each of these 6-inch high amulets is basically the same, but, of course, because they are each hand-made, you can rest assured that each is also unique, and the maker affixes a special stamped paper on the back with spiritual images specific to that maker. The entire piece is covered with vinyl film and arrives with a hanging string.
This makes a lovely engagement or wedding gift, offering protection for the new couple. Of course, we cannot promise that it does have powers, but oftentimes, belief is what is most powerful.
