Vintage Hand Embroidered Scapular of Saint Expedito
More Scapulars, Devotionals, Amulets, Prayer Stones, Etc.
More Vintage Items
This vintage devotional scapular features a black and white printed image of Saint Expedito (aka, Saint Expedite, Saint Expeditus and Saint Espedito). There is some controversy about the dear St Expeditus. There are statues of him around the world as well as medals and honorariums. It is unclear as to whether his name led to expediting matters, or if the word came first. In any case, he has become known as the Patron Saint of those needing to do things quickly and deliver things on time.
Although not printed or sewn anywhere on the piece, it is believed that a scapular helps protect the soul of the wearer and it is usually accompanied by the invocation:
Whosoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.
The picture has been protected by glass and is then framed with brown felt and hand embroidered. The backing piece is reinforced felt that has been hand sewn. Perhaps there is a devotional inside - but we did not open the scapulars to determine this. The hanging string is just that - cotton string or cord.
The brown pieces are approximately 1 inch long by 15/16 inch wide, but vary slightly as these all hand made.

This aluminum milagro or ex voto celebrates the Sacred Heart of Jesus and measures 2 inches high by 1-1/2 inch wide and is quite light to the touch.

Large Tin Eyes Ex Voto
Ex votos are much the same as milagros, used as a votive offering in prayer to the Saints, to Jesus or to the Blessed Mother. Both milagros and ex votos are given either in gratitude for prayers answered or for an offering for prayers yet to be answered.
The believer chooses an ex voto (or milagro) that represents the subject of the prayer. This lovely ex voto was created in the image of a pair of eyes with eyebrows. You might choose your own reason for offering this ex voto. The reasons might be many, better eyesight, watchfulness, guardianship, or, indeed as an evil eye protector.
This ex voto is new, made of tin, and measures 3-1/8 inches wide by 2-3/8 inches high. There is a hole at the top for hanging. Our eyes ex voto is a bit more ornate than our large milagros that are similar in size.

Silvery Medal featuring Nino Fidencio
Known as a local or folk saint, El Niño Fidencio has not been recognized by the Vatican as a saint. He was a local curandero (healer), born in Mexico. He was known to heal many, even of sadness, as he was such a happy man. He was known to use the traditional ways of healing as well as psychological ones. He is venerated today by many and his followers, fidencitos, make pilgrimages to his town twice yearly to celebrate his healing and to hope for miracles. Some of the fidencitos go into trance-like states, believed to become El Niño and are transferred his healing powers for that short while.
The back of the medal reads:
Ruega por Nosotros (Pray for Us)

Reversible Saint Patrick & Saint Bridget Medal
More Travel & Transportation
More Saint Patrick and Things of Ireland
More Babies
Saint Patrick was actually born on the British mainland and then kidnapped and shipped to Ireland as a slave, working in the mountains as a shepherd. Saint Patrick is often associated with driving the snakes from Ireland. While it is true that there are no snakes in Ireland, this may be more mythical, representing his effort in converting the Irish.
Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland and of many individual churches and dioceses throughout the United States. He is patron to those in fear of snakes (ophidiophobics), those who have been bitten by snakes, and of excluded people, and of engineers.
Saint Bridget (aka, St. Brigid) was a great lover of the poor. She was born to a Lord of Ireland, who arranged a marriage for her. Determined to create a life of devotion to God, she pled her case to the bishop who arranged for her to take her vows quickly. She was quite beautiful and it is said that she denounced her beauty and prayed to have it taken from her so that no man would be attracted to her. Her prayers were answered until her vows were taken - and then she re-gained her beauty. Some say that Saint Patrick himself was the bishop who heard her final vow.
Saint Bridget is that Patron Saint of Travelers as she set up so many convents throughout Ireland despite the terrible conditions of the 5th and 6th centuries when she live. She is also patron to babies, fugitives and sailors.
Our lovely medal is made of silvery metal in Italy.

Silvery Medal featuring La Monserrat (Black Madonna)
The Virgin of Montserrat is a statue of the Virgin Mary and infant Christ venerated at the Santa Maria de Montserrat monastery in the Montserrat mountain in Catalonia, Spain. She is a black Madonna. And for that reason, she is often called La Moreneta ("The little dark-skinned one"). Legend has it that she was carved in Jerusalem in the very early days of the Catholic Church, but it is really from the late 12th century as it is carved in the Romanesque style. It is believed that the Benedictine monks built their monastery around the statue, rather than move it. It is surrounded by an alter of gold and many make pilgrimage to pay homage to La Monserrat.

The artisan has created these one-of-a-kind ornaments by cutting out the tin, painting it and lightly découpaging a holy card featuring La Mano Poderosa.

Our Lady of Czestochowa - Golden Medal with Color Image
Originating in the 15 century, the Black Madonna is most often associated with the portrait found in Czestochowa, Poland. Some say that the extraordinary power of the Black Madonna is a strength that is not expressed in portraits of the lighter-skinned Mary, who is most often associated with purity and obedience. While the Madonna is still the Mother of Jesus, the diverse representations are not only images of her likeness, but symbolic of her spirit as well. Others suggest that there is a closer connection between the Czestochowa and the archetypal Earth Mother of many cultures, who intercedes for fertility and transcends both life and death.
This lovely gold-plated medal is just about 1 inch long and 5/8 inch wide. The captivating color image is of Our Lady of Czestochowa. The image is sealed in protective epoxy, making it ever the more striking on a golden chain or silken cord. It is also lovely as an addition to your shrine or artwork, especially with an Eastern European theme!

Silvery Saint Charbel Medal - The Miracle Saint
More Get Well
Saint Charbel (Youssef Antoun Makhlouf) is the first canonized saint from the Middle East. He is known as the Saint of Miracles. Saint Charbel was born to a poor family in Lebanon and drawn to the monastic holy life as a child, following his uncles. Later ordained a priest, he was known as a a holy and comforting soul.
He was struck by an illness when offering Mass on December 16, 1898, and died on Christmas Eve of the same year. Several months after his burial, dazzling bright lights surrounded his grave. His corpse secreted sweat and blood in the grave. Pilgrims from around the world traveled to petition the saint's intercession and were blessed with recovery and spiritual grace.
In 1925, Charbel was proposed for beatification and canonization. His grave was opened and his body appeared as though he had only died that day. This was acknowledged by theologians and physicians alike. After this, the number of pilgrims (of all religions) increased, as did the miracles of healing
Saint Charbel is beloved by many because of he return to faith and the reviving of the virtues of the soul that were brought about simply by his life and death. He is known for so many miracles, including the expulsion of grasshoppers, oil lamps burning and, of course, the healing of the souls and bodies of many patrons. A chapel in Mexico City honors a statue of Saint Charbel. There is a pole filled with ribbons tied by supplicants asking for intersession.

Silvery Saint Genesius Medal - Patron of Actors, Comedians and more
Saint Genesius was a Roman actor who performed during the time of Emperor Diocletian in the third century. During a performance, he was playing a Christian who was about to be baptized - this was a farce and meant to be a satire of the Christian sacrament. During the performance, Genesius was converted to Christianity when he saw angels surrounding him. This, of course, enraged the emperor and Genesius was eventually beheaded for his faith. This is his story, which may well be legend, but he was canonized and is now the patron saint of actors, comedians, dancers, musicians, lawyers, torture victims and attorneys, among others.

Sterling Silver Faiths of the World Bracelet
More Bracelets
Representing the Faiths of the World and the wearer's belief that diversity strengthens our humanity rather than divides us, our wonderful sterling silver bracelet should bring positive energy to anyone who wears it. Let's hope that it also spreads peace through understanding and tolerance.
The links represent world religions by symbol:
SIKH - The Khanda Emblem symbolizes the four pillars of Sikh belief, represented by symbolic weapons. In the center is the double-edged sword (Khanda), representing knowledge of divinity and the creative power of God. Surrounding this is a circular ring (Chakkar), symbolizing the unity of God. Chakkar and Chakra are derived from the same root. And, on either side, crossed kirpans (Piri & Miri), symbolizing spiritual and temporal power in balance.
JUDAISM - The Star of David is the most recognizable modern emblem of the Jewish religion. Legend has it that the image was used by King David of the Bible as his shield. The association with Judaism did not come until the middle ages. In Kabbalistic tradition, the hexagram symbolizes the six directions of space: the divine union of male and female energy, and the four elements.
CHRISTIANITY - The Cross, though generally representative of the Christian religions, has been a religious symbol for thousands of years. Because it was originally thought to be a pagan symbol, it was not the first representation of Christian faith. The most well known cross is the Latin cross, representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When it is pictured with the image of Christ upon it, it is called a crucifix. A true Latin cross, when folded, creates a cube, an ancient symbol of earthly authority.
ISLAM - The Star and Crescent, is recognized as the symbol of the Islamic faith, but is not accepted by all Muslims. This is an ancient symbol, seen as early as 200 BC. There is no mention of this symbol in the Koran.
HINDUISM - The Omkar, or Om Symbol derives from the Sanskrit. Om (ohm) is considered the primordial sound by which the earth was created, symbolizing the unfolding. It symbolizes unfolding, growth and expansion. Omkar represents the Om and its four parts represent the four states of human awareness: the material state (ordinary waking), the state of deep sleep, the dream state and the awakened state (absolute conscience). Many eastern religions celebrate the Om.
BUDDHISM - The Dharma Wheel, also known as the dharmachakra, is Buddhist symbol that originates in the Hindu. The surrounding circle symbolizes the completeness of the Dharma. Its eight spokes represent the eight tenets of Buddhist belief that lead to enlightenment: right faith, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right endeavor, right mindfulness and right meditation. Generally circular symbols represent continuity and eternal rebirth, rather the Dharma Wheel represents the ability to overcome obstacles.

St Rock - Patron Saint of Dogs & More - Charm or Medal
More Compassion
More Get Well Wishes
This lovely medal is just about 1 inch long and 5/8 inch long. St Rock was a French nobleman who was known for tending to the sick and the poor. He was able to miraculously cure so very many, but, alas contracted the plague himself. Not wanting to infect anyone else, he set off to the forest to die.
He was befriended by a dog who stole scraps of food from the family table and fed them to St Rock in the forest. He was able to recover with thanks to the dog, so his image generally shows a dog by his side. St Rock was falsely accused for being spy and spent the rest of his life in jail. He was tended to by an angel while imprisoned.
St Rock is the patron of those who are sick with the plague, cholera and other such afflictions. He is also the beloved patron saint of dogs, falsely accused people and invalids.

Silvery Saint Peregrine Medal
Saint Peregrine lived a worldly youth and was quite involved in politics and very anti-Catholic. During an unsettling time he had struck St Phillip Benizi across the face. The saint immediately forgave Peregrine and turned the other cheek. This made an overwhelming impact on the young man who later converted.
St Peregrine was known for his wonderful sermons and kind personality. Later in life, he became the victim of a spreading cancer in his foot and was scheduled to have it amputated. The night before the operation, he prayed and received a vision of Christ, who, with a touch, healed Peregrines foot - the cancer was completely gone.
Although many people consider Saint Peregrine the Patron Saint of cancer patients, he is also the patron of the gravely ill - those with open wounds, AIDS patients and others as well.

Later in life, when she was too ill to attend Mass, it is said that the image of the mass would appear on her convent cell wall. For that reason, she has become the Patron Saint of Television.

Turkish Evil Eye Bead
Evil Eye Charms also Available
Legend has it that the evil eye of jealousy from friend or foe can trouble you, or, indeed, cause you harm! Now we can't promise that SilverCrow's handmade Blue Evil Eye Beads can ward off such trouble, but given the right circumstances, perhaps the representation will help the wearer or owner. Such talismans turn jealous eyes away and grant protection from such harm. Each eye is hand made and is different from the next.
These flattened blue circular beads measure about 14mm by 8.5mm and are created by lampwork. The eye can be seen on both sides! The hole measures between 1.8 and 2.8mm, so there are lots of possibilities with these beads each bead.

Vintage Hand Embroidered Scapular of Saint Katherine of Alexandria
This vintage devotional scapular features a black and white printed image of Saint Katherine of Alexandria. She is the Patron Saint of Single Women as well as attorneys. She is rarely on a scapular, so we found this quite rare. But, it is handmade and perhaps the maker was taken with the devotions of the Saint.
Saint Katherine's picture has been protected by glass or acetate and is then framed with brown felt and hand embroidered. The backing piece is reinforced felt that has been hand sewn. Perhaps there is a devotional inside - but we did not open the scapulars to determine this. The hanging string is just that - cotton string or cord.

Shiny Copper Milagro Honoring San Martin de Porres
More Milagros, Amulets & Medals
This striking Shiny Copper Milagro features an elegant stamping of beloved San Martin de Porres. Each milagro is hand-made and is approximately 1-1/2 inches wide by a bit over 2 inches tall and features a satin ribbon at the top.
San Martin was the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and young freed black slave, Anna Velasquez. Rejected by his parents, he grew up in poverty and was cared for by a surgeon-barber from whom he learned to care for the infirm.
As a youngster, he began to work for the Holy Rosary Dominican Brothers in Lima, Peru. Because of his devotion to the poor and his other good works, he changed the nature of the Priory's rules and the brothers dropped the stipulation that "no black person may be received to the holy habit or profession of our Order”. San Martin took his vows in 1603.
He is well know for his creation of an orphanage and children's hospital. He also established a shelter for the stray cats and dogs and nursed them back to health.
San Martin is a beloved saint throughout the Americas. His followers are from all walks of life, all financial backgrounds and all races. Many miracles have been attributed to him.
San Martin is usually pictured with a broom, showing his willingness to work hard and with a dog, cat and mouse all eating from the same bowl. His austere lifestyle is venerated by many.
He is the patron of all races and particularly of mixed-race individuals. He is also patron to the poor, to public education and health care.

Traditionally Prepared La Mano Poderosa Amuleto
More Amulets, Talismans, Medals & Milagros
La Mano Poderosa Talisman
Also known as La Mano Ponderosa, this stunning amulet is prepared to protect you against evil magic! The real vitreous enamel image represents the Powerful Hand of God.
The amulet is properly blessed in the traditional fashion, by a person who we believe has the power to accomplish this. This amulet has been "prepared", which is to say, it has been rendered effective and given power by a Mexican curandero, Carlos Cisneros, of Gomez Palacios, Durango. He used the curing method from the ancient grimorio La Clavícula del Rey Salomon. This involves a series of special prayers to the seven spirits of the seven days, plus setting the amulets out in the light of the waxing moon, and the use of both incense and special perfume.
For your protection and for the protection of your loved ones, we're sure you'll find this special amulet welcome.

Prayer Stone with the Same Inscription
Copper is a soft metal that is known as a catalyst for increasing mental alertness. Some believe that it fights against arthritis pain and supports the immune system. It is also known as a good conductor of energies from Higher Nature - perhaps that is where its healing reputation started.
It has been said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in the mantra inscribed on this wonderful cuff:
Om Mani Padme Hum
Because of that, it cannot really be translated into a simple phrase or sentence. This very special mantra frees us from the real world, so perhaps that is why there is no real translation, as it is the translation of everything.
We are happy to offer this symbol of peace as a bracelet to be worn by anyone at any time - to be reminded of the powerful mantra.

Saint Francis of Assisi & the Wolf Medal
More Medals, Amulets and Milagros
More Animals
Beloved by even those who do not usually venerate the saints, St Francis of Assisi was not only known for his devotion to God, but also for his kindness to animals and his peacefulness for all creatures, including humans.
This traditional medal measures 1 inch high by 1/2 inch wide. It was made in Italy and is made of modern pewter (no lead). On the front, an image of the venerable Saint Francis and a wolf is portrayed in 3D. It measures On the back, the medal reads:
Pray for Us.
On the front,
Saint Francis
The story of St Francis and the Wolf is a great learning experience for all of us. Legend has it that St Francis was visiting a town that had been besieged by a wild wolf. Not only did the wolf kill the town's pets, but also livestock and other wild animals - and people. No one ventured past the town's boundaries for fear of being mauled or killed.
St Francis volunteered to go reason with the wolf and a local friar and some of the townspeople. Not everyone had the strength of belief in God's protection as did St Francis, so his entourage dwindled as he approached the forest.
Only he and the friar were left as the wolf charged from behind the trees, mouth open, ready to strike. St Francis made the Sign of the Cross, and, much to everyone's surprise, the wolf stopped in his tracks.
The saint explained to the wolf that he had been terrorizing the town, the animals, the people. He asked the wolf to make a pact with him to end such behavior and to become friendly with the humans, who were created in the image of God. Then, St Francis asked the wolf and the townsfolk to both agree to forgive the past and move on.
Unbelievably, the wolf moved towards St Francis and nodded his head. Then St Francis offered his hand and the wolf extended his front paw into the saint's hand. St Francis then invited the wolf to accompany him back to town. Meekly, the wolf agreed. St Francis, wolf at his side, entered the town and offered the people a lesson, taught by the wolf. He called upon the people to repent their sins and offered them peace amongst themselves and that other creature of God, the wolf.
The townspeople made a pact to keep the wolf fed and not to hurt him. In return, the wolf agreed to be peaceful as well. For two years, the wolf went from door to door, accepting food from the people of the town. Even the local dogs treated the wolf warmly, never barking.
The wolf's peaceful ways were a living reminder of the wonders of God and the patience, virtue and holiness of St Francis. When the wolf died of old age, he was mourned, but his memory was a reminder of the power and providence of the living God.
This lovely story may or may not be true, but certainly, we can see the wolf as a representation of the beloved animals in our lives.
This medal is just the right size to hang on your dog's collar or to wear on your bracelet or necklace as a reminder of the devotion of our pets to us.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Medal
Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a treasured representation of the Blessed Virgin Mary that has been associated with a Byzantine icon or image of the same name. There is some controversy about the original date of the image - ranging from the 13th through the 15th centuries. The actual icon is in Rome and has been there since the late 1400s.
This is a highly recognizable image of the Virgin Mary holding the Baby Jesus in her arms. Catholics have prayed to the Blessed Mother to intercede on their behalf, with her son, Jesus, for help. Perhaps the reason for the popularity of the image is Mary's gaze directly at the viewer, rather than down at her son, conveying her care for the world at large and individuals in particular.
This image is particularly special to us as it was our Grandmother's favorite. Although we never knew her, we have heard of her patience, kindness and open arms of love. And, this lovely medal features a very detailed image of Our Lady.
The medal reads on the front:
Our Lady of Perpetual Help
and on the back:
It measures 1 inch high (including the loop) by 1/2 inch wide.

Sterling Silver St Michael the Archangel Icon
Our little wooden icon features an elegant image of St George Slaying the dragon. It is hand-made with a technique similar to découpage, but with a golden foil image and measures 2 inches by 1-3/4 inch.
Saint George is highly venerated in both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. He is the patron saint of soldiers, those who work with horses and protectors of all types. He is best know for slaying a dragon to save a princess.
Because of his chivalry (protecting women, fighting evil, having great faith, depending on the might of arms and generosity to the poor), Europeans became quite devoted to Saint George after the 10th century. And, in the 15th century his feast day (Roman - April 23, Orthodox - November 3) was considered as important as Christmas and was just as popular!

San Simon Removable Charm
Removable charms like these from the Victor Flores collections of QT Charms have been trendy since 2003 when they were originally introduced. We were particularly taken by the clarity of the image in this removable charm featuring San Simon.
Some call him the patron saint of gamblers, smokers and drunkards. Because of this, he is still worshiped in many Guatemalan villages with offerings of tobacco, alcohol, Coca-Cola and tropical plants. San Simon is pictured smoking and holding a bottle of liquor, beer or wine. He is not recognized as a saint by the Catholic church.

Very Large Gold Plated St Barbara Pendant or Talisman
Saint Barbara is usually depicted with a chalice and sometimes with a sword. She is well known as a martyr of the 4th century. However, the Catholic Church could not substantiate her legend and she was removed as a saint in 1969. Despite this, she still has quite a following in the modern world as the patron saint and protector of the military and those who work with explosives. Her father actually martyred her as he was a non-believer. According to legend, he was struck down by lightning right after killing Barbara. The lightning associates easily with armed warfare and explosives.
This large amulet measures 2-1/8 inches high (including the loop that is atop her crown and 1-1/4 inch at the widest point. Because of its size, the pendant might be better suited as the focal point in a shrine or remembrance for someone in the military.

Rosary Center Locket - Mary, Our Lady of Grace
More Pendants & Necklace
Our sweet little locket featuring Our Lady of Grace can be used in so many ways. As a traditional locket, add some pictures and hang on a necklace. Because there are two loops at the top arcs of the heart, you'll have very special looking piece. There is also a loop at the bottom - perfect for a rosary center or for hanging a little bead or crystal.
This locket is created from raw brass, so, it's in natural finish tone and will tarnish. If you like the color, then just use a preservative wax or varnish for jewelry. Or you can add a natural patina with other jewelry products. It has elegant and delicate details on the cover and measures about 24mm by 19mm.
Aluminum Ex Voto - The Infant of Prague
There are many stories that speak of the origins of the Infant of Prague. They all agree that the special statue given to the Carmelite order is a statue of the infant Jesus. Many carvings of such statues had been created throughout Europe over time.
The most likely history begins in 1628 when a small - about 19 inches tall - detailed, almost perfect statue of the Infant Jesus in wax was brought into Bohemia by a Spanish princess. She told them that, if they honored the statue, they would never be in need. The Carmelite novices voluntarily became poor and, as such, honored the statue of the Infant. When Emperor Ferdinand II (Hapsburg) heard of this, he arranged to send 2,000 Florins and a monthly stipend to support the order and their good works.
This aluminum milagro or ex voto celebrates the Infant of Prague and measures 2 inches high by 1-1/2 inch wide and is quite light to the touch.
Silvery Nickel Men's Wedding Milagro
It is so difficult to find appropriate gifts for same sex unions. We were excited to find this Silvery Nickel Wedding Milagro for a male couple. Each milagro is hand-made and is approximately 1-1/2 inches wide by a bit over 2 inches tall.
Similar to many protection packages, these short vials contain a collage of plant and mineral material as well as lucky charms. The cap is sealed with colorful plasticized material (usually red or green) so your amulet stays intact. The bottle itself is made of glass, and, although strong, is breakable.
There may or may not be other contents in the vial. A short description is included in the display package.

Mini Saint Jude Statue
Saint Jude is the Patron Saint of lost or impossible causes. It is believed that this patronage has been derived from the confusion by many early Christians between Jude and Judas not understanding the difference in the names. No one ever prayed for Jude's help, and devotion to him became something of a lost cause.
Made famous by comedian Danny Thomas, St Jude has come to represent hope and much more than just lost causes. St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, created by Danny Thomas after his prayer was heard, provides treatment for children who suffer from catastrophic medical conditions, without regard to the family's ability to pay.
This tiny statue is a symbol of the spirit of the saint who has given so much hope to so many. Made of resin with a metallic silver finish, the statuette measures about 1 inch tall.
Aluminum Ex Voto - Our Lady of Grace
More Milagros, Ex Votos & the Like
Perhaps this version of devotion for the Blessed Mother of Jesus, is derived from the prayer, Hail Mary. The very first line is:
Hail, Mary, full of grace...
This is one of them most available and representative images of the Virgin Mary: with her arms outstretched downwards and streaks of light emanating from her fingers. The graceful flow of her garments adds to the peacefulness of this image.
Many Catholics pray to the Blessed Mother to intercede with her son to honor their prayers of thanks as well as petition. This aluminum milagro or ex voto celebrates Our Lady of Grace and measures 2 inches high by 1-1/2 inch wide and is quite light to the touch.
This aluminum milagro or ex voto celebrates Saint Anthony and measures 2 inches high by 1-1/2 inch wide and is quite light to the touch.

Tiny Hand-Made Glass Rosary
Tiny Rosary in Glass Case
Both my Mom and my Aunt Betty had one of these tiny rosaries as children. I still have my Mom's. So, you can imagine how excited I was to find that these are still made!
The rosary beads are also Czech glass and are so tiny, it's hard to believe they were hand made, but they were! The crucifix and other medal parts are all silvery metal and incredibly have quite a bit of detail as well.
When we order these, we are given no choice of color, so we're never quite sure what we will have. We will try to honor your request for a specific color, but, just in case, please let us choose one for you.

Aluminum Ex Voto - Saint Anthony
St Anthony Medal
Saint Anthony is considered to intercede when something is lost and to help find missing persons. Legend has it that he garnered this reputation when a young monk had taken his book of psalms. St. Anthony prayed that he find it (or, indeed, that it be returned). The young monk that night had a dream with a vision of St. Anthony and immediately returned the Psalter.
It is also considered that St Anthony is the patron of lost souls, those who have lost their way and have forgotten the spiritual in their lives. For that reason, many mothers and sons wear medals honoring the dear saint, that their souls be preserved.

Mini Triptych Byzantine Icon with Mary & Angels
More Milagros, Amulets & Icons
Icons are associated with the Byzantine rite churches. This lovely handmade triptych (three panel) wooden icon has been hand-carved on the back and individual icons have been découpaged to the front. The images feature Mary in the center with Archangels on either side.
The angel panels are attached by hinges allowing them to close up so that only the wood is seen from the outside. This style was originally created centuries ago for the persecuted who believed in the angels, saints, Mary and Jesus, to be able to hide their images from the persecutors.
The images are highlighted with metallic golden paper, and, in some cases, gold leaf. The entire piece measures 2 inches high by 3 wide inches when open. The hinges allow it to close for portability and for display. When closed, it measures 2 by 2 inches.
The images of Mary usually include Jesus, but a few feature Our Lady alone. Usually one of the angels is St Michael the Archangel, some feature Gabriel or Raphael.
Because these are handmade, each is different from the next, so please let us choose one for you.

Sterling Silver Om Namah Shivaya Bracelet
Also known as the 5-syllable mantra, Om Namah Shivaya, is written in Sanskrit on this stunning sterling silver cuff bracelet. Handmade by traditional artisans in the Himalayas, this bracelet has been fashioned in a time-honored manner of fine silver. Each bracelet arrives in a pouch that will help the silver resist varnish and a gift box.
The three Gods of Hindu mythology run the universe. According to such myth, the Brahma created the universe. The Vishnu preserves the universe. And Shiva, destroys the universe. In such destruction, Shiva represents the inner self (in other religions, the soul), which shall remain intact - even when the universe and all else ends.
Om Namah Shivaya is the mantra dedicated to Shiva. In bowing to Shiva, one bows to one's true self - making this a very powerful mantra. It is common understanding that if this mantra continually vibrates in one's heart, then there is no need to meditate, to practice yoga or to live an austere life. Because of the power of this mantra, it does not need special circumstances, positions, rituals or ceremonies. It is free from restriction and can be universally repeated by anyone from anywhere, at any time. As such, one shall be purified.

Distressed Leather Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the many titles given to the Blessed Virgin Mary. A Byzantine icon named Our Lady of Perpetual Help was created sometime between the 13th and 15th centuries (there has been much controversy over the exact date). The original icon has been in Rome since at least the late 15th century, but is truly in the style of an Icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. She is known in the Orthodox iconography as the Theotokos of the Passion. Catholics have long revered this image as representative of the ability of Mary to intercede with their prayers to Jesus Christ, her son, pictured with her in the icon.
This popular image has been much copied and reproduced, as it has been here. The image has been printed on the distressed leather and then accented by hand with golden ink or paint, highlighting the image to create a mini masterpiece! The icon measures 3-1/4 inches by 5 inches and the hanging leather adds approximately an additional 3-1/4 inches in height.

Smashed Penny featuring the Serenity Prayer
Smashed Penny - Lord's Prayer
Milagros, Talismans & Amulets
Coins like these have many names, but our favorite is smashed pennies, aka elongated pennies and pressed pennies. The first elongated penny was created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus during 1892-1893. There are some who believe that there were such coins produced earlier, but the experts have singled this celebration as the beginning.
A smashed penny is is made by forcing a penny (or other coin) through two steel rollers. There is an engraving on one of the rollers (sometimes both sides). A crank (mechanical or electronic) forces the coin through the rollers and squeezes it with extreme pressure. This smashes the coin from round to ...you guessed it...elongated. The pressure pushes the engraving into the penny at the same time it is smashing it.
We've been collecting these since we were children, and now our grandchildren collect them, too. Made from shiny pre-1983 pennies, there is a higher copper content than if created with today's pennies. The prayer reads:
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.
Because they are smashed in the process of impressing the prayer, they are super thin, yet sturdy. The new oval shape measures about 1-5/16 long and about 13/16 wide. This makes a wonderful keepsake for your wallet or pocket. And, it's a lovely little token to give a friend.

Silvery Milagro Eye Charm
More Charms and Beads
While this is not really a milagro, it resembles one. Double eye milagros generally represent a connection to the popular Santa Lucia, who suffered blindness while being executed. In the end God restored her eyesight.
The single eye might also venerate St Lucy, but more likely, it represents the spirits watching over us. When added to the frame of a picture of a departed one, the eye acts as an angel's eye - watching over the spirit of the beloved ancestor. It may have some connection to the evil eye talismans, but this is not certain.
This little charm measures 5/8 inch wide by about 1/4 inch high without the loop.

Mixed Milagros Woodblocks
More Wood Blocks & Other Stamps
Hand carved woodblocks have been the traditional means of printing in Nepal for centuries. Even today, prayer books in Himalayan Buddhist monasteries are printed from such blocks.
This set of mixed milagro images was created in the same traditional manner. The elegantly carved blocks are images of eyes (sometimes known as Saint Lucy's eyes), a flaming heart, a hand and a house.
Handheld tools are carefully used to cut the designs out of "sisau", a type of cedar. Lokta paper handmade from the bark of the Daphne tree is traditionally harvested so that the tree may regenerate.
To print, simply press your woodblock onto the inkpad provided (or one of your own). Mano Poderosa and Powerful Hand Holy Cards
More Information about The Most Powerful Hand
The image of the Most Powerful Hand or Mano Poderosa, has been brought to us from Hispanic influences far back in to the beginnings of Christianity.
The upward-pointing hand has been used as a talisman for centuries, dating back to Ancient Rome. It has generally been used as a charm against enchantment because it possesses secret and kabalistic power within its symbols. In modern times, the most common realization of an upward-pointing human hand is La Mano Ponderosa (The Powerful Hand) found in Roman Catholic symbolism.
Our Mano Poderosa talisman features a multicolor charm as well as scapular images and prayers in English and Spanish as well as a small clothe bag for safe-keeping. Colors and charms vary, so please let us choose one for you.

Talismanic Seals Set
More Metaphysical Items
The talismans, or seals, included in this set are authentic reproductions from the book which is some times called Moses' Magical Sprit-Art. According to tradition, the designs have many magnificent powers. They were taken from ancient Hebrew Holy Books (including the Talmud and the Kabala) and have been passed down through the ages. Even today many believers carry or use them with faith in their effectiveness to bring results by magical means.
The legend is given, although no claims of supernatural powers are made for the talisman. They are carried in purse or pocket as a secret possession, and usually protected by placing them in a small bag or carrying case, usually made of red fabric, such as flannel.
The set we offer is a complete set of 52 seals in a colorful velveteen pouch. WE have also included a golden or silvery charm of one of the seals. A printed explanation of each seal is included as well. The seals are printed on vellum-like paper in a deep red ink.
These are wonderful pieces to add to your sacred or magical artwork or shrine. Each seal differs in size and there are many shapes. Most of the papers measure around 2-1/2 by 3-1/4 inches.
Seal charms vary, so please let SilverCrow choose a set for you.

Saint Lucy Medal
Saint Lucy, also known as Santa Lucia, was a rich, young Christian of Greek ancestry. Although Saint Lucy's mother arranged a marriage for her after her father's death, Saint Lucy prayed that she might devote her life to her religious convictions. Her potential bridegroom was pagan, and once he knew of his rejection, arranged that she be punished.
Part of this punishment was to tear out her eyes violently. Because of this terrible fate, St. Lucy has become the patron of those with eye problems, including the blind. After blinding her, her captors attempted to burn her at the stake and the fires were quelled, supposedly by Saint Lucy's devotion. She was later killed, but is said that her eyesight was restored, thus her patronage.

He is generally represented in 20th century clothing, with a wide-brimmed hat. He is known to represent male power, balancing a moneybag, holding a flag and holding coins in his open hand.
His feast day is at the beginning of the rainy season in South America, and so he is often associated with fertility. He is thought to bring rain and fertility.
Some even call him the patron saint of gamblers, smokers and drunkards. Because of this, he is still worshiped in many Guatemalan villages with offerings of tobacco, alcohol, Coca-Cola and tropical plants. San Simon is pictured smoking and holding a bottle of liquor, beer or wine.

Mini Sterling Silver Saint Jude Charm
St Jude Statue
Sterling Silver Guadalupe Charm
This tiny little charm is the perfect addition to charm earrings, a nicho - particularly if made in our Nicho Necklace! The image is strikingly clear in this little 3/8 inch diameter charm.

The Wonder Of It All (Hand-Pressed Token)
More Amulets
At a carnival in the 1950s, I made one of these wonderful tokens on a very special mechanical device. After thinking for what seemed to be ages of just the right sentiment, I impressed my name. 40 years later, my dear friend, Juliana and I found ourselves high atop a New York City landmark, and behold another of the very special machines!
This time, at Juliana's urging, we each made one just like the one in the illustration above, with the sentiment:
THE WONDER OF IT ALL
These machines are no longer manufactured, but you can find them few and far between at old-time amusement parks and other special places.
We found a wonderful new buddy, Tom, who has a machine of his own and he was kind enough to make these one at a time so we could offer them to SilverCrow's customers. He not only made them one at a time - and each letter had to be selected and then individually impressed manually on to each token!
If you can behold each day with wonder and treasure each of your friends as I do Juliana, then you'll need one of these for each of you. Add a simple ball chain key chain or necklace to compliment that old-fashioned feeling.
Each silvery token measures about 1-1/4 inch in diameter and features a four-leaf clover in the center, surrounded by the words:
GOOD LUCK

Mini Evil Eye Pin
More Amulets & Milagros
Our little evil eye pin is so old-fashioned and modern at the same time! You'll receive a little (about 1 cm) heart-shaped hand-made glass evil eye charm and a little plastic leaf or bunch of grapes on a standard golden brass safety-pin.
The custom suggests that you'll be protected if you pin this little amulet inside (or outside) your clothing, it will protect you, so these little eyes are thought to turn away looks of envy and give protection from the evil eye.
Generally an evil look is associated with ill will or bad luck, so these little eyes will turn away such looks and give you protection from the infamous evil eye.

Handmade Détentes
More Devotionals, Amulets, medals & Such
Just lovely - and perfect for any shrine or other such project! Each is an embroidered heart, oval or square with a saint’s picture on either side. Traditionally, a detente is worn (usually by a safety pin through the satin ribbon loop) to show devotion to a particular saint and to request the saint’s protection.
The body of the detente con santo is 1 inch high and about 7/8 inch wide. Gold braid frames the inner border of satin stitching. Such a lovely folk-art tradition! Some are heart-shaped, oval, round, rectangular, and, as pictured above, shrine-shaped.
No two are alike, so please let SilverCrow choose one for you.
Small Tin Cross with Heart
If you are attracted to the tin milagros, crosses and ornaments from Mexican, but think them a bit bright or too large, then this little tin cross is for you. It measures just over 5 inches high and is oxidized for a vintage look, although it is brand new. In the center is an almost perfect heart painted red. Some of the crosses have a few additional red accents, but none too flashy.

Hand Made Guadalupe Medal
This very special silvery medal is ever so special as is its message on the reverse:
CON ELLA TODO SIN ELLA NADA (WITH HER EVERYTHING WITHOUT HER NOTHING)
The irregular images and primitive lettering are evocative of the simple believe expressed on the back of the medal. The simple elegance of this sweet design has entranced us. Of course, Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe)) is the protector of the Americas, so this makes it ever more special. The medal is made of oxidized silver (not sterling) metal and is perfect for making a shrine, adding to artwork, especially with a Mexican theme!
