Vintage Hard Plastic Three Monkeys Charms

More Charms
How much fun monkeys are - especially when they are vintage plastic monkeys who are well behaved! Each of the charms is marked HONG KONG on the base. Each package of three little guys includes one each of the virtuous fellows. If you can't decide which is which, just look on the back, where their positions have been lettered in gold:
HEAR NO EVIL SPEAK NO EVIL SEE NO EVIL
Each charm has been hand detailed and measures 1 inch from bottom to top including the hanging loop and 5/8 inch wide and about 9/16 inch from front to back. These were created as novelties for five and dime stores in the late 1950s or early 1960s, so please allow for the imperfections that you might expect from such items.
Four monkeys are shown so that you can see the back of one of them. Each set contains three monkeys.

Diego Rivera Temporary Tattoos
One of the 20th century's most original artists, Frida Kahlo often incorporated themes from Mexican folk art while bluntly recording on canvas many of her personal passions. Details from four of the artist's extraordinary paintings have been adapted for this ready-to-wear tattoo collection: the provocative Self-Portrait with Monkeys, The Little Deer, Diego and I and Self-Portrait with Collar of Thorns. Sure to be prized by tattoo enthusiasts, these large, haunting images will also appeal to lovers of fine art and admirers of this important artist.
Consider using our temporary tattoos in your crafts as well. Lots of our customers have experimented with these successfully!

Frida's Garden Fabric on Tea-Dye Background
More Fabric
Alexander Henry fabrics are known for their versatility and cutting edge designs. Their talented in-house artists paint each design by hand, and the company screen-prints the final product on 100% cotton. Fabric is 44 inches wide.
Much of the symbolism in Frida Kahlo's paintings can be seen throughout this gorgeous fabric. Her native Mexican culture was so prominent in her paintings and writings and that imagery translates beautifully into this high-quality fabric.
While there are no specific references or explicit renderings of her actual artwork here, it almost seems as though Frida herself created this fabric. The colors are subtly exotic, designed by Phillip de León and shows stylized depictions of Kahlo amidst jungle surroundings, with her beloved monkeys. There are exotic plants, flowers and native fruits and even some blue snakes!
Two excerpts from Frida's writings are also incorporated in a handwriting style close to her own:
Pies para qué las quiero, si tengo alas pa' volar. (Feet - what do I need them for if I have wings to fly?)
Tengo ganas a vivir. Ya comencé a pintar. (I desire to live. I have already begun to paint.)
What wonderful things you can create with such fabric: book covers, quilts, tote bags, clothing, scarves, lampshades and more.

More Taboo
Not quite sure how to say, "hello" after so many years? Well, this sweet postcard of a monkey family meeting the gentleman just might be perfect. Postcards make wonderful correspondence media - particularly for short notes that you must make not-so-personal!
This image is a reproduction of a much earlier postcard and we're just delighted that the printer chose this wonderful image. There are ever so many stories one can imagine from this little print:
Is it a circus milieu (with the ringmaster on the left)? Or is that a sweet uncle who just gave the little girl a hoop? Why don't the woman and girl have blouses? You will find much more in this picture the more you analyze it!

Vintage Embossed Die Cut Chromolithograph Scraps - Animal Wannabes
More Scraps, Dresdens & Die Cuts
From the mid-20th century, super cute scraps feature animals in professions and activities normally reserved for their human friends. There are bears, birds, monkeys and more bowling, juggling, delivering the mail and playing the banjo. Artists, musicians and waiters and more, offer their more humorous side for inclusion in your artworks. We're not sure whether we wannabe the animals or if they wannabe human.
As with many of the scraps and die cuts made in the 20th century, these are children in adult situations. The advent of space exploration in the 1950s and 1960s, led to many products such as these. Rather than intricately die cut motifs, these are nicely expressed vignettes that are die cut into shapes - probably meant for découpage. We're particularly attracted to the colors in this production - there is a special tone that makes the scraps seem older than they even really are!
The scrap relief sheet is approximately 9 inches by 7 inches, ready for you to clip and use in your artwork. And each sheet is lightly embossed to accent. The shapes make these perfect for accenting boxes, pencil cups or other such items.

There are exotic plants, flowers and native fruits and even some blue snakes!
