Our late friend from Ojinaga created this wonderful frame for us. We had so many requests for such frames, we decided to offer this bright red one.
The bright red frame is accented in bright metallic gold and measures 8-1/2 inches high (including the concha trim) by 6 inches wide and is 1-1/4 inch deep. The concha (curved part on top) measures about 2 inch highes by 4-1/2 inches wide. The opening is 3-1/2 by 5-1/4 inches. All of these measurements are approximate as each is hand made from recycled Mexican fruit crates (rejas) and occasionally, of new wood.
The center of the concha features a small calaca, or hand made plaster Day of the Dead Skull.
The back of the frame is rough. You can either glue your piece to the frame, or, indeed, glue the frame to your artwork. This would even make a wonderful doorway to a large ofrenda, shrine or mixed media piece.

Vintage Plastic Horse or Mule

Be they horses or mules, they were meant to pull something heavy! That you can tell by the yokes around their necks. These little figures hail from the mid-20th century and were probably part of a child's toy set. Their fittings appear to have been hand painted either tan or red or both.
Each measures 2-1/2 inches from nose to tip of the tail and 1-5/8 inch high by approximately 3/8 inch wide. Some still have thread attached to them, however we're not sure what purpose that had originally.
Vintage Joan Rivers Blue, White and Gold Enameled Egg Charm
Joan Rivers owns the gorgeous Fabergé necklace that was created for the Queen of Romania in the 19th century. Of course, Ms Rivers' necklace is made of gemstones and precious metals. This egg is a copy of one of the eggs on her necklace. We were lucky enough to have come across several of the same egg!
The lovely baby blue and white enamel is a nice contrast to the elegant dark gold of the metal work. Each egg measures 3/4 inch high by about 1/2 inch in diameter at the widest part of the egg. These are are probably too heavy for earrings.

If these little dollies had their heads, hands and feet, they would be Frozen Charlottes or Frozen Charlottas. But, alas, they've lost their heads and more. But, we just thought you might be able to use the torsos in your artwork!
Frozen Charlottes appear to have have been manufactured as far back as the early 1850s. Their history is quite intriguing, as is their allure. Some are bisque, but most are made of glazed porcelain. They were known in Germany as Bathing Children (Badekinder) or Naked Babies (Nackfrosh).
Charlottes were named after a young Victorian girl who went out dancing with her beau. Against Mother's advice, she left without her coat and froze in the snow. This is the story of an old folksong called Fair Charlotte often attributed to William Lorenzo Carter.
The dolls were made from the 1850s through the early 20th century and sold for about a penny each in the United States. Children would dress them and were able to collect a few because of the nice price. In fact they were often called penny dolls.
Ours have been dug up in Germany near the original factories. All of our are missing an arm or a leg or feet, etc. We think the damage endears them even more. We have not cleaned them, so you can enjoy discovering the unique beauty of your own doll. Just use a mild soap gently with water.
If whole, these lovelies might sell for $125 to $300 each.
Our torsos measure from about 1-1/4 inch to 2 inches in length. We have pictured several for you to see the difference. We have many more in our collection.

We think the older crystals seemed more brilliant - or perhaps they become that way as they age! Each of these vintage glass pointed back faceted round stones is prettier than the next. They are a pretty deep rich green with a gold foil backing. They are in excellent vintage condition. Each is 7mm in diameter.
These can be sewn or, more easily, glued on to your project. We are showing several so that you might see the front and back. You may be able to remove the gold backing, but we have not tried to do this.

How wonderful the very old desk accessories and office supplies were. Even the printing on the throw-away covers was nicer - and, on this sleeve, the description has been letterpress printed.
This full package of NoTear Price Book Sheets is in great condition. Some of the outer sleeves might have slight wear or a small rip, but the pages are in excellent aged condition. Each sheet is reinforced with a fabric tape, resembling book tape.
The pages measure 6-5/8 inches long by 3-5/8 inches wide, meant for a 6-3/4 by 3-3/4 inch notebook. They are 3-hole punched.

The labels are in fine condition, ready to use. The boxes have seen better days. Some have broken sides; others have been taped. But, they all are original!

Such sweet die cut stickers with gummed adhesive on the back were all the rage until the 1970s when self-stick adhesive stickers became the norm. Gummed adhesive needs to be water activated before it will stick. This usually meant that one would lick the sticker. However, we suggest that you use a dampened sponge or cloth to activate it. Because these are old, we think you might even need to add a bit of white glue or other adhesive to make these really stick.

There are three compartments in this shrine with a pointed rooftop. There are so many possibilities for your imagination to run away. You can leave it the original dark brown color of the Masonite, or you can paint it to match your imagination!
Your completed shrine or memory box will measure 9-1/4 inches tall by 3-1/4 inches wide by 1-5/8 inch deep (not including the base). The base measures 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches. The inside compartments are each 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inch.
Although our shrine is standing complete without any gluing, you might choose to use glue to hold it more tightly together. Of course, all of the instructions are included.

These enchanting sequins are unused old store stock from the 1920s and 1930s. These are shiny black sequins that measure 7/8 inch long by 1/2 inch wide. The stringing hole is at one of the small ends of the sequin.
Vintage Dennison Red Bordered Labels No. 205 in Original Box
Each box is advertised to contain 30 labels. We didn't count them, but we're assuming they're complete or almost complete. The box is marked No. 205. On the back is an advertising graphic typical of the 1950s when these were so popular.
Each label measures 1-5/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch. The slide box measures 2-1/4 inches by just about 1-3/4 inch by 1/2 inch.

Icons of Jesus Christ often picture the image of Christ Pantocrator, meaning Christ, Ruler of All. It is one of the first images of Christ painted by devoted early Christians and is still the central figure of icons of Eastern Orthodox Church.
Christ is usually pictured holding the New Testament of the Bible in his left and and is making the familiar gesture of teaching and blessing with his right.
Our little wooden icon features one image of Mary with the baby Jesus as well as Christ Pantocrator. It is hand-made, in the traditional manner of Byzantine art (painted with egg, tempera and gold). It measures 2 inches by 2-7/8 inches when open. The hinge allows it to close for portability and for display. The back of the icon's wooden base has been carved by hand also.
Mini icons have been produced by family businesses for centuries and recently many of these small shops have gone out of business. We are no longer able to purchase these hand-painted icons. Many of the smaller icons made today are still hand-made, but not as nicely as these.
The images of Jesus and Mary vary slightly as does the finishing as each of these are made by hand. Please let SilverCrow choose one for you.

Art Postcard - Greetings From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh's Civic Arena (later called Mellon Arena) was built in 1961. At the time it was the world's first and largest moveable dome. This vintage postcard from the early years features a view of the arena from the observation promenade deck atop the Gulf Building.
The venue was deemed an all-purpose sports arena, convention hall and auditorium-theatre, and was built at a cost of $22 million and was considered one of America's engineering wonders. The huge stainless steel roof, weighing more than 3,653 tons, was able to be rolled back in two and a half minutes for open-air events such as concerts and operettas. It was nicknamed the Igloo because it resembled one and because the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team played there for so many years. It was finally demolished in 2012 for a more modern structure.

Red and silver krausbouillion has been wrapped around a wire and then curled into a spiral. You can use just as it is, or bend and shape the wire any which way you choose. We love that if varies between silver and red tinsel!
Curled as it comes, it measures about 7-1/2 inches long by about 1 inch in diameter. There is a bead at each end to keep the krausbouillion (crinkle wire) on the wire so that it doesn't slip off. These are produced by Midwest of Cannon Falls and arrive in a nice storage tube if you choose to use this as an ornament. We think there are so many other uses!

Box of 6 Little White Plastic Skull Beads
This nice little box is filled to the brim with little white plastic skull beads - with six of them to be exact. Each bead measures 3/8 inch from top to bottom, about 5/16 inch from side to side and about 5/8 inch from front to back. The stringing hole is from top to bottom. With just a few boxes of these, you could make a dandy bracelet. With one box, you could make yourself a great pair of earrings!

Vintage New Old Stock Cabochon Pin Featuring a Horse
We were lucky to find a lot of these cabochon pins as new old stock - never used - in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse. They are cleverly made and most are in fine shape. There is some wear from handling on some of the cabochons.
It appears that the cabs are made of metal and that the image has been transferred onto the cabochon either by printing or some other method. Each of the pins are the same and feature a portrait of a lovely horse.
If you care to do so, you might re-work these into assemblage pieces by removing the cabochon and applying a new image, or, indeed by replacing it with something else. Please be careful if you choose to remove the cabochon - especially if you are bending the prongs.
These were made by a novelty company - not a jewelry company - so please be careful when working with them.

Vintage Magnet in Original Package
Originally created as a novelty, probably for children (this is not meant for children today due to the small parts!), this magnet was sold in five and dime stores in the mid twentieth century. Still in its original packaging, the magnet arrives with a circular piece of steel that it can magnetically attract.
The magnet measures about 1-1/2 inch long by 7/8 inch wide and the circular metal disk is a bit over 3/4 inch in diameter. The magnet and the metal disk may show signs of rust. These are old store stock, never used, but time has shown them some wear.

Random José Borges Pamphlet

José Francisco Borges is a well known folk artist from Brazil. He is best known for his stunning wood block prints. He is a prolific artist and poet, creating pamphlets in his studio on an old hand run printing press with wood block prints on the cover (and sometimes on the back as well).
We have been lucky enough to have come upon a few of these pamphlets, which are about many different subjects - very few are the same. So, please let us choose one for you.
Most are several pages long - usually about 8 pages, hand printed in Borges' studio. Each features a print similar to the ones pictured on the front, although there are many more images. These are great to collect or to use in your artwork. The poems and prose inside are written in Brazilian Portuguese, Borges' native language.
The pamphlets differ slightly in size, but all are about the same: from 6-1/2 to 7 inches by 4-1/4 to 4-1/2 inches. Colors of the cover paper and internal leaves differ as well.

Their sweet faces have been hand painted, so each one will be slightly different from the next, but all are similar. Muslin Bag with Guadalupe Image

Antiqued Silver Irish Blessing Möbius Pendant

The Irish have long been known for their lovely toasts and blessings - wishing well to many and ill will to few. This lovely silvery pendant features one of those wonderful blessings:
May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you and all your heart might desire.
Created in the form of a mobius strip, the blessing only seems to repeat itself. The mobius band is quite the curious shape. There are all kinds of wonderful characteristics within it. While it dates back to ancient times, the actual mathematical properties were not defined until the mid 19th century.
This curious circle has the distinct feature of having a surface with only one side and only one boundary and it has no orientation. If you were to draw a line, or (as in our pendant) write a verse, down the middle - the line (or verse) will meet back at the seam but on what appears to be the other side. Because the "sidedness" is eliminated, a line twice the circumference will be made in this manner.
The pendant measures about 1-3/4 in diameter. The thickness varies around the bends.

Diamond (Or Square) Eye Nicho
We always love to get new style nichos for creating treasure boxes, dream boxes, shrines, memory frames and all kinds of things. This versatile nicho is quite becoming. At first it seems a bit Victorian with its scalloped edges around the diamond. At closer inspection, you'll find an evil eye debossed right atop the niche. This allows for special protection of your artwork, memorabilia or souvenirs inside.
From top point to bottom, the nicho measures 6-1/2 inches. From side point to side point, 5-1/2 inches. There is an outlining square around the triangle, creating additional dimension. The inner niche features a glass door that is latched traditionally with a coiled metal column. The niche measures 2-3/4 inches high by 2 inches wide and is about 1/2 inch deep.
The niche's depth allows for pictures, sentimental items and mementos to be added - perhaps a miniaturized version of a special letter, a small candle a ticket, or, of course, some milagros.

Rare Vintage Dennison Teal Crepe Paper Folds In Original Packaging

Crepe paper has been used for crafting for over a century. It is made from tissue paper that has added sizing for strength. It has then been creped (crinkled) for that wonderful texture. The tighter the grain, the stiffer the paper and the better it is to use in your crafting and decorating, as it will retain its shape as you form your projects. You might even wet it to take on the shapes!
Crepe paper is still produced today in the USA and in Germany and China. But we, as SilverCrow, of course, love the old stuff. The old papers have slightly faded and that type of patina only comes with age. Of course you can fake it with light and water, but the real aging process is the best. And, of all the crepes, of course, Dennison is the best. We're happy to offer you this wonderful Dennison crepe paper in its original packaging for you to complete your old-timey craft and party projects.

Chartres Labyrinth
Labyrinths first became identified with the Christian church in Europe around 350 AD. This interest dissipated over some centuries and was again renewed in the Middle Ages. One of the most famous of these is the one in the nave of the Chartres Cathedral near Paris, France. This was build around 1200 and is actually flat - a part of the floor layout. Over time, the maze became worn and the center was removed and some of the parts were replaced or restored.
Church labyrinths such as the one at Chartres were "walked" by some for contemplation and serenity as one prayed. Others used the path of the labyrinth as a journey for penance or repentance by traveling the maze on their knees. Some thought that this 11-circuit labyrinth could be a substitute for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The central rose symbolizes enlightenment, so as the walker courses each of the quadrants, s/he can contemplate the reward of such meditation or penance.
This handheld version is made of safe pewter and measures 4-3/4 inches in diameter. Included is a romance card, with labyrinth information and a stylus. This is all conveniently packaged in a velour pouch. Use the stylus to trace the quadrants, contemplating the symbolic cross that separates them as well as the center and imagine your own journey to peace.

Saint Francis of Assisi's San Damiano Cross in Metal

The San Damiano Cross is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is associated with Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis helped rebuild the small church of San Damiano and in doing so also helped to rebuild the entire Catholic Church. On the back of this lovely cross is an entire prayer in Italian.
