Mystical Ouija Board & Planchette Necklace
More Necklaces & Pendants
More of the Metaphysical & Mysterious
The first talking board, similar to the Ouija board was used in China around 1100 BC. The origins of the name Ouija are less known and more highly debated. The first modern Ouija board was patented in 1891 and was quite similar to the ones we know today. The planchette has been used for decades by spirit mediums in many forms as well.
Our Ouija Board Necklace features a replica board framed in silver metal and a little planchette just in case you might feel the need to ask Ouija a question. The back of the necklace is a surprise as well with the images of the sun and moon from the front as the highlights.
The organza necklace measures 16 inches and features a silver plated lobster claw clasp. The pendant measures 1-3/4 inches by 1 inch.
The entire piece arrives in an organza bag for treasuring or giving.

Bouquet of Delicate Mini Ivory Velvet Forget-Me-Nots
More Easter & Spring
More Forget-Me-Nots & Other Victorian Style Items
Such sweet little flowers make a lovely doll bouquet or an addition to a special little girl's hair ribbon. There are so very many uses for these lovely velvet blossoms. Each little bloom measures 1/4 inch in diameter and there are one full dozen per bundle. The stems are hand wrapped in light green, making the bouquet ever so much more appealing for springtime.
Our little posies are new, but they are reminiscent of times gone by and could easily be mistaken for vintage Victorian!
These may require some fluffing when they arrive. Just like the originals from oh, so long ago, they arrive flat and we fluff them up a bit for you. But you can arrange them any way you like!

Mini Hand-Painted Ornament - Blue Devil with Long Tongue
More Ornaments
More Diablos
Although these ornaments are meant to represent the devil, we're not so sure as they are all quite comical and fun! The artist, Jimenez, has sculpted natural materials and clay to create his masks. So there are so very few that look even close to the same, so we are quite lucky that we have some that are quite similar. These are miniature versions of the masks displayed on so many walls and worn during so many holiday celebrations.
Each time we order these scary but fun masks, we get completely different designs. Even though some are our favorites, we may never see them again!
No two are exactly the same, so please let us choose one for you. There is a self-loop on the back for hanging. The approximate measurements are 2-1/4 inches high by 2-1/2 inches wide.

Vintage Alphabetos Charms to String or Paste
More Vintage Stuff
More Charms
From the 1950s or early 1960s, these wonderful charms include all 26 letters and 10 numerals that are:
easily snapped off to string or paste
Created by the Paul A. Price Company of New York, this set of charms is made of hard plastic in different colors. Sorry, but we cannot offer a color choice. We love them for charm bracelets or necklaces and for memory creations.
On the back, the package reads:
for fun and for education
SPELLING GAMES - LEARNING THE ALPHABET - IDENTIFICATION BRACELET - HAT AND TOY DECORATION
PERSONALIZED GIFT PACKAGES LUGGAGE IDENTIFICATION - STORE LETTERING - HOUSEHOLD LABELING
There are great graphics on both sides of the accompanying paper. The front offers the spelling of several words and a picture to go along with it.
The entire plastic piece measures 5-3/4 inches by 4-1/2 inches. Of course, the different letters and numerals are different widths, but the heights are all the same: 1/2 inch not including the loop, 5/8 inch with the loop.
Several sets shown for illustration only.

Vintage Brass Filigree-Edged Bezel
More Jewelry Components
The open scallop filigree on the edge of this bezel will add all the more charm to whatever it holds inside. The bezel measures 30 mm (just under 1-1/4 inch). You can glue your favorite cabochon to the base and fold the filigree edging down and voilà - a gorgeous piece of jewelry. Or, add a picture or some artwork and use clear cabochon atop it.
These lovely pieces have aged well and have a nice patina. You might want to add a sealer but we've not noticed that one is necessary. It is always best to check!
Two pieces are shown so that you can envision both the back and the front.

Large Silvery Skeleton in Coffin with One Leg Charm

Sun or sunflower Nicho
More Nichos
More Heavens
Our Sun Nicho has a tiny niche - only 1-5/8 inch high by 1-1/2 inch wide and just 1/2 inch deep. The glass door opens from the front and closes with a traditional looped metal closure.
The entire piece measures 6 inches high by about 6 inches wide. The sun rays are all hand cut, so these measurements are approximate. We're really impressed with the cutting as we're not so good at cutting paper - let alone tin. The aged coppery color finish is a bit shinier than usual and we think it works nicely with such a heavenly image as the sun.
Truth be told, some of us thought this was a flower, not the sun, so perhaps it is a sunflower. In any case the cheerful tone of the piece makes it a lovely gift for someone. Why not add some mementos or a special photo?

Vintage Celluloid Powder Box
More Useful Décor
More Containers & Vessels
More Boxes & Bags
More Vintage Finds
Lovely pieces like this were originally used for powders for the face, or talcs for the body. Of course there would have been a fluffy powder puff inside. With the advent of inexpensive plastics in the 1930s, vanity items like these became more readily available. We are fortunate to have a few of these special powder boxes made of true celluloid.
Most cases are 2-3/4 inches in diameter (70 mm), some are a tiny bit larger and others a tiny bit smaller. The lid slides on for a nice fit. Please be careful if you really fill your case with powder - don't pick the box up by the lid or you'll have a powdery dresser top. When closed with the lid, the little case measures the same in height as the diameter (2-3/4 inches).
We love the old printed cardboard boxes as well as the metal ones, but there is something so warm about celluloid, both in the patina and the feel. We're sure you'll find just the perfect use for yours!

We are delighted to have these, but cannot get any more of them, so they are quite a special find! Three components shown for illustration.

When we first found these, we thought they had once been buttons. Now, maybe you could make buttons from them. However, these lovely pieces have an origin sticker on the back and no semblance of any button finding.
Each of these round pieces is flat backed and hand painted with stripes resembling bamboo plants and a lovely exotic redbird. They are 1-1/4 inch in diameter and each is similar to the next, but there is some variation due to the hand painting. The domed top is lacquered for wear, but the back has been left in its natural state.

Mini Hand-Made Tin Heart With an Angel Ornament
More Angels
More Love & Valentines
First, these tin ornaments are cut and then hammered. Well, sometimes they are hammered and then cut. The hammering creates the embossed design within the ornament - the heart, the angel and the angel's wings. Then the ornament is painted with vibrant paints or inks.
The heart features an angel atop the heart, perhaps protecting your love. It measures not quite 5 inches high by 4-1/4 inches wide. There is a hole at the top for you to hang this on your wall on a nail. Or, add a ribbon and hang it that way - either on a wall or a holiday tree.

Vintage Hand Embroidered Scapular of Saint Expedito
More Scapulars, Devotionals, Amulets, Prayer Stones, Etc.
More Vintage Items
This vintage devotional scapular features a black and white printed image of Saint Expedito (aka, Saint Expedite, Saint Expeditus and Saint Espedito). There is some controversy about the dear St Expeditus. There are statues of him around the world as well as medals and honorariums. It is unclear as to whether his name led to expediting matters, or if the word came first. In any case, he has become known as the Patron Saint of those needing to do things quickly and deliver things on time.
Although not printed or sewn anywhere on the piece, it is believed that a scapular helps protect the soul of the wearer and it is usually accompanied by the invocation:
Whosoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.
The picture has been protected by glass and is then framed with brown felt and hand embroidered. The backing piece is reinforced felt that has been hand sewn. Perhaps there is a devotional inside - but we did not open the scapulars to determine this. The hanging string is just that - cotton string or cord.
The brown pieces are approximately 1 inch long by 15/16 inch wide, but vary slightly as these all hand made.

Pair of 2 Vintage Pink Distressed Lucite Hooks
More Altered Art Components
Also Available in Tortoise Shell Lucite
These hooks are the greatest find. They are vintage and made of Lucite. Each hook measures 1-3/8 inch by 5/8 inch. you can hook them together in many ways, or use them separately. They're great for plastic and Lucite necklaces or even larger metal chain.
They make great clasps for other loops and hooks, too. The variegated colors in these hooks is quite interesting. they run from pink to black - but they are predominantly pink. We're not sure what the plan was when making this color, but it came out pretty cool indeed.
Warning: In bunches, these have an unpleasant scent. Early plastics, such as the celluloid in these sequins often contained formaldehyde and other unpleasant additives. Once separated, the scent dissipates and the sequins are in fine condition for use.
Two pairs of hooks are shown to illustrate their versatility.

Aluminum Ex Voto - Saint Jude (Saint of the Impossible)
More Milagros
Saint Jude is the favorite saint of many Christians. He is there to help with the impossible.

This aluminum milagro or ex voto celebrates the Sacred Heart of Jesus and measures 2 inches high by 1-1/2 inch wide and is quite light to the touch.
Milagros (miracles) and ex votos (devotions) can add thoughtful symbolism to secular art projects as well as working well in shrines.

More Wall Art
Frame this wonderful print and hang it on your wall. Or, collect it. Or, use it as a bookmark; give it as a gift. Whatever you choose to do with it, we're sure it will be treasured for years to come.
This is a fine art print of an original painting from our new friend, Alison Fennell. She is a truly gentle and talented soul who agreed to print these just for SilverCrow.
Alison's own description of this fine image of glorious blackbirds:
Plush in their iridescent blue and black finery these two old boys greet each other with a bow and a caw!
These are standard ATCs (2-1/2 by 3-5/8 inches), printed with archival ink on archival fine art paper. At first glance, the image appears to be an original watercolor!

Large Tin Eyes Ex Voto
Ex votos are much the same as milagros, used as a votive offering in prayer to the Saints, to Jesus or to the Blessed Mother. Both milagros and ex votos are given either in gratitude for prayers answered or for an offering for prayers yet to be answered.
The believer chooses an ex voto (or milagro) that represents the subject of the prayer. This lovely ex voto was created in the image of a pair of eyes with eyebrows. You might choose your own reason for offering this ex voto. The reasons might be many, better eyesight, watchfulness, guardianship, or, indeed as an evil eye protector.
This ex voto is new, made of tin, and measures 3-1/8 inches wide by 2-3/8 inches high. There is a hole at the top for hanging. Our eyes ex voto is a bit more ornate than our large milagros that are similar in size.

Hand Carved Crow and two Moons Pendant with Sterling Silver Bail
More Pendants & Necklaces
More Items from the Heavens
Stunning in its simple complexity, our Raven or Crow and 2 Moons Pendant has been hand carved in bone. The elegant detail of the bird's feathers is amazing. At the crest of the raven's neck is a swoosh of longer feathers, making this piece seem very much like a totem. The smooth elegance of the two moons is in sweet contrast to the feathers.
The ever so slight variation in color is a natural feature of the bone. We think it adds to the beauty of the carving, giving it a depth that a single tone would not allow. The bail is sterling silver and can accommodate a larger chain or ribbon. There are so very many possibilities for this pendant!
It measures 1-1/2 inch long. The bail adds another 1/4 inch. At its widest, it measures 1-1/4 inch. The crow's eye is a pale green. When we purchased this lovely pendant, we were told that the eye is a tiny peridot. The back of the piece is flat. The initials of the artisan have been carved into the back

It is so much more fun to make vintage-style Christmas ornaments with real vintage parts. This lovely glass pinecone ornament was made in Germany during the mid-20th century. The cap is silver as is the hanging loop.
Each of these ornaments was hand-blown and then hand finished with frosting and glitter, so there may be a very slight variation from one to the next.

Known as a local or folk saint, El Niño Fidencio has not been recognized by the Vatican as a saint. He was a local curandero (healer), born in Mexico. He was known to heal many, even of sadness, as he was such a happy man. He was known to use the traditional ways of healing as well as psychological ones. He is venerated today by many and his followers, fidencitos, make pilgrimages to his town twice yearly to celebrate his healing and to hope for miracles. Some of the fidencitos go into trance-like states, believed to become El Niño and are transferred his healing powers for that short while.

Weird & Wonderful: Discoveries from the Mysterious World of Forgotten Children's Books

More Stuff for & about Kids
Tom Robbins (Even Cowgirls get the Blues) exclaimed,
Thanks to Weird & Wonderful, I now know what one book I would take with me to a desert island.
The delightful result of many hours spent looking through old children's books, Weird & Wonderful is a collection of images that are eccentric and puzzling, that both baffle and charm the viewer. Biographical details are included where available, as is source material for each image. The whole is a visual treat and loving tribute to the art of the old-fashioned picture book!
A few, outside the field of the picture book, who embody the spirit of Weird & Wonderful are:
Preston Sturges * Glen Baxter * The Leningrad Cowboys Salvador Dalí * Mark Fidrych * Alexander Scriabin * Prince William Blake * Quentin Crisp * Zandra Rhodes * The Sitwell Family Nikola Tesla * Oscar Wilde * Björk * Howard Huges * Frank Zappa Philip Treacy * Tim Burton * Hieronymus Bosch * Erik Satie
You'll have hours and hours of fun with this book. There are little pieces of stories and stories that are pictures and pictures that are stories.
Compiled, edited, treasured and touched by the famed pseudonymic Welleran Poltarnees, this tremendous little softcover book will pay for itself over and again. Welleran Poltarnees characterizes himself as "a normal, perhaps boring, member of the human race." Most would not agree with his assessment. Poltarnees spends his life searching for the memorable image. This search leads him to a relentless siege of garage sales, auctions, libraries, flea markets and antique stores. He has collected thousands of picture books, old and new. Poltarnees collects useful elephant objects, plastic charms, Jai-alaina, wooden rulers, cloth animals, children's card games and more. He has seven children, each with an exotic name. He is more comfortable in a suit than in casual dress. He loves the rain, usually wears a fedora, and attends more than one hundred classical music concerts a year!

Bead Featuring the Leaning Tower of Pisa
More Italy
The Tower of Pisa is really a free-standing bell tower (campanile) for the Catholic Cathedral in the city of Pisa, Italy. Built during the late 12th century, the tower was intended to be upright. However, soon after the construction began, the floor of the first floor began to sink. Some believe this to be caused by poor foundation design. Others blame the substrate beneath the tower. Both seem to be true. It has become an icon of travel photographers, many of whom take pictures of loved ones who appear to be holding up the tower.
This photographic portrait is bordered in silvery metal in the form of a bead. It measures about 1/2 inch wide. There are two holes for stringing that travel through the bead from left to right.

More Desk Accessories
Our railroad spikes hail from all over, but most are from western Pennsylvania. These are spikes that were on the ground (or in it) - and no longer being used by the railroads. Some are straight; some bent, some painted gold or black - all are very old - early to mid 1900s - some even earlier. Each one weighs from 1/2 pound to almost a pound.
We have cleaned them, but we have not removed all of the rust on the unpainted ones. You might want to varnish yours if you decide to use it as a paperweight, but we've been using them to hold open doors, as paperweights and in artwork for years with no problems. They are made of iron or steel. They measure from 6 to 8 inches long and each has a solid natural head on it.
We have many of these and no two are alike. Please let us know your preference: painted, rusty, bent, etc., and we'll try to honor it. If you absolutely want a certain type, be sure to tell us, otherwise we'll choose one for you if we don't have exactly the one you describe.

Bead Featuring Michelangelo's Creation - Image of Man (Adam)
The Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Papal Chapel at the Vatican was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. Perhaps the most notable of the images is this - Adam as he is receiving life from God.
Small Shabby Chic Hand-Painted Nicho Featuring Frida Kahlo's Painting The Roots
More Frida
This lovely little nicho was hand made and painted by a traditional artist. The artist has adapted a traditional mini nicho (about 3-1/2 inches high) to feature a simple print of a portion of Frida Kahlo's most famous painting, The Roots. Individually painted and lettered, this sweet nicho features a door that opens so that you might add your own offerings - a Frida charm or milagro, a treasure, a prayer on parchment - you decide.
The Roots holds the record for Sotheby's highest priced auction sale of artwork by a Latin Mexican artist: $5,616,000!
Because these are hand-crafted and hand-painted, please allow some variance in design. The background and nicho color vary slightly from one to the next. All are orange. No two are alike, so please let us choose one for you.

Tiny Day of the Dead Quarry or Rock Worker
These guys are among our favorites when it comes to Day of the Dead figurines. They could be miners or street workers or quarry workers.
Each of our tiny Day of the Dead workers has some kind of tool - either a pick-axe, a jackhammer, a sledge hammer, etc. Each one measures about 2 inches high by 1-3/4 inch wide by 2 inches deep. Sizes vary according to the natural rocks that are included in the vignette.
This little muerto is made of several kinds of clay and is a wonderful update on the traditional Day of the Dead figures. And, just like all of our other Day of the Dead Figurines and vignettes, each of the these is hand made and hand painted, so please allow for some variation. Outfits, tools, rocks, positions and bases may vary slightly.
Please let us choose one for you. We're showing two for variation.

Delicate Hand Crocheted Champagne Freshwater Pearl Necklace with Sterling Toggle Clasp
At a trade jewelry show not too long ago, we stood and watched the artist make these necklaces as we talked to her about her home state, California. She had been a teacher and was laid off and decided to take her jewelry making passion and turn it into a job she loved. She was sure that she wouldn't lay herself off! So, we bought some of these wonderfully unique necklaces.
Hand-crocheted with silken cord, the champagne colored freshwater pearls alternate between a single pearl and a cluster of 2 pearls. This delicate looking necklace is deceiving as it is quite sturdy. It measures 17 inches (including the sterling silver toggle clasp).
You might choose to add an enhancer or pendant, but it is a lovely choker all on its own.

Vintage Plastic Chalet Charm
Manufactured and hand-painted with stellar German precision, this vintage plastic chalet is flat-backed and measures only 5/8 inch high by about 1 inch wide at its widest. There is an amazing amount of detail on each of these charms - all hand-painted!
The little hanging loop allows this to be a charm, but, if you're careful, you can cut it off and use it as a motif. The flat back accepts glue quite well.

Vintage Roller Watch parts in Corked vial
More Watch Parts for Collage
Watch Faces
Bergeon is an old Swiss company that makes microtools for watch making and watch repair, amongst other things. We are delighted to offer these really neat tubes that originally held flat an hollowed-out rollers for watches. Some of the vials still contain some of the parts.
Mostly every one of these tubes contain at least one Swiss-made roller for watches - the roller is a teeny tiny part. The tubes are some type of hard plastic. We at first thought them to be glass, but we're not sure - and we didn't want to ruin one by breaking it.
The vial measures 1 inch (without the cork). Each vial is closed with the cork. The outside diameter of the vial is 1/4 inch. Each one reads in white letters:
BERGEON
And, under the name is a number that corresponds to the size of the rollers inside. We have no idea if the items inside are the originals in each vial, but we're guessing so as we bought these from a watchmaker's estate. Generally such talented artisans would be neat about maintaining their supplies and tools.
Each vial is numbered differently, so please let us choose one for you.

Vintage Box of 36 Fuzal (Green) Teardrop Glass Lenses
Oh! The possibilities for these great lenses. Each box of 3 dozen lenses is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. They were made in Japan originally for use as the lenses for sunglasses. But, they are perfect for use in jewelry and assemblage.
Because they are glass, they are fragile, but they are not delicate - we've not broken any yet. The convex shape is great for covering a secret in an assemblage or collage. Although they appear dark in the photo, they are surely transparent enough for your projects.
These fuzal lenses are 53mm at their widest and 63mm long and they arrive in their original packaging. We have not opened all of the boxes in order to preserver their vintage value, we are not sure if they are complete and unbroken. But, in the sample boxes we opened - all were present, individually wrapped and intact.
At less than 18¢ each, you'll be able to complete several projects with these great glass pieces. They also make great collectibles for anyone in the optical professions!
Price: $6.25 per box

Sweet Bird Oval Nicho
How could we not fall in love with this beautiful nicho? Two crossed feathers at the bottom of the oval seem to protect the contents inside. Atop the oval is a flying bird, which is made of several pieces, giving it a unique sense of depth.
As with all of SilverCrow's nichos, our Sweet Bird Nicho is made in Mexico by traditional tin artisans. The detail is amazing and the workmanship is exceptional.
The entire piece measures 7-3/8 inches high by about 5-3/4 inches wide. The niche itself is really a rectangle with an oval glass front. The niche opens from the back with a spiral clasp - a bit different from some of our other clasps. The niche measures 3-1/4 inches high by 2-1/2 inches wide and not quite 7/8 inch deep. The oval is 2-7/8 inches high by almost 2 inches wide.

Vintage Mona Lisa Metal Pin (New Old Stock)
More Leonardo da Vinci
We were lucky to find these unique cabochon pins as new old stock - never used - in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse. They are cleverly made and are in shabby-chic shape. There is some scratching and other wear from handling, but that's about it.
It appears that the cabs are made of metal and that the image has been transferred onto the cabochon either by printing or some other method.
We make a point of not cleaning vintage items - just in case! We wouldn't want to ruin the value.
If you care to do so, you might re-work these into assemblage pieces by removing the cabochon and applying a new image, or, indeed by replacing it with something else. Please be careful if you choose to remove the cabochon - especially if you are bending the prongs.
These were made by a novelty company - not a jewelry company - so please be careful when working with them.
Each measures 1-11/16 high by 1-5/16 wide and has a self-pin on back that has been attached mechanically rather than by adhesive. So, for novelties, these are pretty well made.
These pins are from the 1950s and 1960s and were meant for sale in 5 and 10 cent stores such as Murphy's, Ben Franklin and Woolworths. We love them for embellishment and just for the memories (of the future)! They measure 1-1/2 inch in diameter and make a swell gift package decoration, too!
Several pins are shown for illustration of condition.

Vintage Enamel Baseball Pin (New Old Stock)
More Summer
More Toys & Games
We were lucky to find a whole bunch of these cabochon pins as new old stock - never used - in a Brooklyn, New York warehouse. They are cleverly made and are in pretty nice shape considering that they were meant only to be novelties - and they are still around! There is slight wear from handling, but that's about it.
It appears that the cabs are made of metal and that the cabochon is white enamel and the stitching image has been transferred onto the cabochon either by printing or some other method.
Each measures 15/16 inch in diameter and has a self-pin on back that has been attached mechanically rather than by adhesive. So, for novelties, these are pretty well made.

Vintage Brass Coin Holder for Nickels, Dimes & Quarters
More Money & Greed
Our old store stock (never used) brass coin holders were quite the rage in their day. We understand that these, in particular, were from the mid-20th century or earlier. Measuring only 1-3/4 square and only 1/2 inch thick, these are great for pocket or purse - or keep one in your car for those tolls and parking meters.
The slots are labeled 5, 10, 25 and 25. But, we're guessing that you might be able to store special tokens in one of the 25 slots.
To use, just slip a coin into the slot and press down. Each section will hold about 1/2 inch of stacked coins.
This is a great old-fashioned item whose time has not faded. Each arrives boxed and most have the original tissue as well.
Sorry, but the coins are not included. Two coin holders are shown to illustrate the item empty and full.

Æsop's Fables, Illustrated by Arthur Rackham (The Green Edition)
More Green Products
Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing, an don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs!
These simple allegories - abounding in paradoxes, ambiguities and ironies - embody great truths. Attributed to a legendary storyteller of ancient Greece, they speak to readers and listeners of all ages and cultures.
This enchanting edition of Aesop's morality tales features illustrations by one of our favorites, Arthur Rackham. His 13 full-color and 53 black-and-white images lend a perfect blend of humor and romanticism to the timeless fables.
An illuminating Introduction by G. K. Chesterton complements V. S. Vernon Jones' sprightly, concise and idiomatic translation.
This is a paperback unabridged republication of the edition published originally by William Heinemann, London, and Doubleday, Page & Co., New York in 1917.
This book is created as planet-friendly publishing: printed on recycled paper (text 10% and the cover 10%). This publication saved 15 trees; eliminated 1,437 pounds of air emissions; 6,925 gallons of water; and 421 pounds of solid waste eliminated.

Each of our tiny Day of the Dead Artists is creating a masterpiece, but might be standing or sitting. All measure between 2 inches and 2-3/4 inches high, depending on the stance and the size of the painting.

And, just like all of our other Day of the Dead Figurines and vignettes, each of the these is hand made and hand painted, so please allow for some variation. Outfits, paintings, positions and bases may vary slightly.

Mexican Sugar Skull Molds - Frida Kahlo
More Frida & Diego
Sugar Skulls are a traditional folk art from Central and southern Mexico. They are customarily used in Day of the Dead celebrations. Local village open air markets offer mounds of colorful sugar skulls for sale during the week preceding the Day of the Dead. Now you can make your own Frida Kahlo Sugar Skulls. The final skulls measure approximately 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches wide and about 2/3 inch thick.
Over the last few years, people have been producing non-traditional candies and other items such as soaps and plaster images in the same manner of the sugar skulls.
Our molds can be used to make the traditional sugar skulls, chocolate skull candies and even soaps and plaster items.
Our Frida mold is great for chocolate or soap as the intricate details are harder to decorate, but the traditional sugar mixture works well in either mold.
If you are going to make plaster or soap skulls, please do not use the same mold for making edible items.
Instructions included.

Hand-Made Simple Shiny Mini Traditional Nicho
This is truly a very special nicho. It is small (only about 3-1/4 inches high by 2-1/8 inches wide), but ever so elegant. The nickel plating transforms the simple into the splendid.
The stunning craftsmanship is detailed and differs slightly among the pieces, as each is hand made. Most boast a variation of the lovely scalloped design. Allow for variation, but rest assured each is as special as the next.
The glass-front niche is 1-3/4 inch square and 1-1/4 inch deep. It opens from the back so you can add your special treasures easily.
The Jumping Frog by Mark Twain (The Revenge Edition)
The full name of this fun reproduction book is:
THE JUMPING FROG In English, Then in French, then Clawed back into Civilized Language Once More by Patient Unremunerated Toil
"Smiley was surprised and disgusted, but he not himself doubted not of the turn being intended. The individual empocketed the silver, himself with it went, and of it himself in going is it that he no gives not a jerk of thumb over the shoulder - like that - at the poor Daniel, in saying with his air deliberate - "'Eh bien! I no see not that that frog has nothing of better than another.'"
You would probably be hard-pressed to identify the author of the above passage as Mark Twain. And no wonder: this little bit of Twain's wit is part of a translation he made from a French translation of his celebrated Frog tale. The French translation was published in the Revue des Deux Mondes, the Review of Some Two Worlds, as Twain styled it. The re-translation Twain made into English was supposed bo be a clear demonstration of the French translator's incompetence. In any case, Twain, trusty tongue in cheek, obviously felt his re-translation to be the only suitable response to the ?French rendering of his inimitable tale. Certainly, the subtleties (such as they are) of the new English version will delight any language student.
But -alas and alack - imagine Twain's consternation (after having given his pitiable French imitator his just deserts) upon learning that the Calaveras County incident had been recorded in Greece two thousand years earlier. Can the reader believe it? do not confuse this book with the original story alone. It contains the original, the French "traduction," Twain's re-translation, and a wealth of reflection by Twain. It is the only "complete" Jumping Frog.
Unaltered and unabridged, this republication is of the original 1903 Harper & Brothers edition. There are 12 delightful illustrations by F. Strothmann in this 66 page 5-3/8 by 8 inch paperbound tome.

This little muerto is made of several kinds of clay and is a wonderful update on the traditional Day of the Dead figures. And, just like all of our other Day of the Dead Figurines and vignettes, each of the these is hand made and hand painted, so please allow for some variation. Outfits, drum accent colors, positions and bases may vary slightly.

Devil and Angel Lawn Flamingos Set
More Devils
Years ago, my Mom had two little figurines that she placed on our mantle. One was a devil and the other an angel. She would place one in the foreground - depending on my behavior that day - so that anyone coming to visit would know my status! I was usually pretty good, but I fought hard not to have the devil out front - which usually brought him further out.
Thank goodness these weren't available back then!
The shortest one is 30-1/2 inches tall and 19 inches from the top of the head to the tip of the tail. The tall one is 33 inches tall and measures 21 inches from the top of the head to the tip of the tail. The devil is black and red with chenille horns, while the angel is white and pink with a chenille halo.

Die Cut Pumpkin Surprise
This reproduction of an antique scrap is new, but in the tradition of Victorian scraps and die cut ornaments of old. What a sweet surprise someone got when this little cutie appeared from inside the joyful Jack-o'Lantern! It reads:
Wishing you a Highly Entertaining HALLOWEEN
This little die cut darling might can easily be used as a delightful gift tag an old-fashioned ornament or as an addition to your artwork. Use a bit of mica or glass glitter and you might even fool someone into thinking this is a vintage paper ornament. The little die cut is made of lightweight cardboard rather than paper, so you might even add an easel backing for stand-up display.
Lightly embossed and nicely trimmed, it is ready to use right away, or you may choose to do a little extra trimming. It measures 5-3/4 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide.
White plastic Angel Component
Such a sweet little angel - just waiting to be added to your newest project! This angel is made of plastic, but the detail and matte finish belie her content. She measures 2-1/16 inches wide from top wingtip to top wingtip and 1-1/4 inch from the top of the wings to her elbows. She is 1/2 inch deep.
The back is open, but the delicate rim is easy to glue, so you might attach her to any of your spun glass or Dresden bases. Because she is plastic, the component is lightweight.
We have found these easy to paint, wash with color, die and even glitter!

Vintage Silly Hard Plastic Peanut Charm
More Circus
Mr. Peanut Charm
Peanut Erasers
We're not so sure when these guys were originally created, but we are sure that they're pretty silly. They appear to be from the mid-20th century, because of their make-up. Each one features what seems to be a broken peanut shell. One of the little peanuts is peaking out, but alas, s/he cannot see anything, because, s/he has no eyes - just a giant, happy, toothy smile! What fun!
Each charm (or pendant) measures 2-1/8 inches long by 5/8 inches wide (at the widest point). there is a little hole at the top with a golden jump ring for easy attaching.
One of our customers just told us that these were a "symbol" for Jimmy Carter during his presidential campaign in 1976 - he was a Georgia peanut farmer! We're not sure whether they were supposed to be positive or negative, but we know they are fun!
Two peanut charms are shown in the illustration.

Vintage Orange Crepe Paper Flameproof Streamer
We love crepe paper - and not just for streamers. Make bows and flowers, cover nut cups, make ornaments. The possibilities are endless.
And, on top of that, this is VINTAGE crepe. This is just what you need for making reproduction Christmas ornaments. Using the real vintage stuff makes them look and feel authentic. This crepe roll was produced by the Dennison company, well known for their home arts papers and other supplies for decades. Dennison has since merged with Avery office products to become Avery Dennison. So new quality Dennison craft and art products are no longer available.
The Dennison Flameproof Steamer sticker remains on each roll, but is a little loose on some of the rolls we have in stock. There is some modest wear and a touch of fading (from storage) on the outside of the roll, but that makes it even more appropriate for your vintage projects!
These 45-foot rolls originally sold for 25¢. That and the label suggest that the rolls are from the mid-20th century.
Price: $3.35 Per Roll
Set of 4 Hallowe'en Picks: Pumpkin, Cat, Skull & Witch
More Miscellaneous Embellishments

Vintage Blank Transparency
Each of these transparencies were originally used by the US Air Force in presenting safety procedures and hazardous materials training to firefighters (then, firemen) in the 1950s. Each of these was blank - ready to use for additional information during the presentation.
Each transparency measures 10-3/8 inches long by 8-1/4 inches and has rounded corners. There is black border around each one. At the tip of one is clear arrow - apparently to help the speaker point this in the proper direction. On one side of the transparency, the black border is matte, on the other side is shiny.
We think this would be great for a collage or altered art project. We'd venture to guess that there aren't too many of these around.
Package of 2 Santa Head Picks
These great Santa Claus cupcake toppers are great for so many projects - and, of course, for cupcakes! The vintage style face and cap are hand detailed. Because they are 3-dimensional, they will make great heads for tiny Christmas Santa dolls or figures. The pick measures 3-1/2 inches long. The head is about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide and about 3/4 inch deep.

Mini Hand-Painted Coconut Devil Ornament - Orange with Multicolor Horns
Although these ornaments are meant to represent the devil, we're not so sure as they are all quite comical and fun! The artist, Jimenez, relies on the shape of the coconut piece to create the mask. Then additional clays are used to complete the image. So there are so very few that look even close to the same. We were lucky enough to find a few of these scary orange fellows with fancy multi-color horns. These are miniature versions of the masks displayed on so many walls and worn during so many holiday celebrations.
No two are exactly the same, so please let us choose one for you. There is a self-loop on the back for hanging. The approximate measurements are 3 inches high by 2-3/8 inches wide.
Art Postcard - 235
From artist Miroslav Nevyjel comes this provocative postcard. It appears to be a photograph of a small apartment building. There are 2 house numbers - 117 and 118. And, these of course, these numbers add up to 235. Now this literal translation is simple. But, what might the artist really have in mind?
Vintage Mint 1966 Circus Clown 5¢ Postage Stamp (USA)
More Vintage Stickers & Stamps
More Circus, Carnival & Arcade
Oh! That we could mail a simple letter in the USA for only 5¢! But, we cannot! There has been an almost 90% increase in postage since this stamp was originally issued in 1966.
We've collected vintage postage stamps from the USA and around the world since the 1950s. What changes there have been - even in the printing. Although the commemorative stamps today are quite lovely, we are drawn to the older stamps that used process printing and even lithography so long ago.
This funny clown is just right for your circus project - even if it is the Circus of the Soul! Each stamp measures 1 inch wide by just over 1-1/2 inch high. perforations were torn evenly, not cut. Each stamp is packaged in a tiny clear plastic sleeve for safe-keeping.
Stamps from this era, like this one, are gummed rather than self-stick. They were made with water-activated adhesive. If you choose to use this as a stamp (of course it is still good for postage in the USA), or for your artwork, we suggest that you use a sponge or other applicator to activate the adhesive as we do not know the entire provenance of these beauties.

The pendant can be slid onto another necklace or cord if you choose. The leather bail is large enough to accommodate a leather or suede cord, or one you might macramé for yourself.
The pendants vary in size from 1-1/2 inch to 2 inches, most on the smaller side. These are great for assemblage and altered art projects because of the the fine leather and cording work.

We're showing two ornaments so that you might see the front and back.
The ornament itself is made of glass and metal, so please be careful with it. Clean it with a soft cloth and please don't immerse it.

Unique in that these scraps are from Sweden, these craft horses are known as Swedish Dala horses -lovely carved horses they have been icons of Swedish folk art since the early 1800s.

Art Postcard - Friedrich Nietzsche
More Famous People
One of the world's most influential thinkers, Friedrich Nietzsche lived from 1844 to 1900. This classic portrait by an unidentified photographer, captures his spirit and intensity very well.
Nietzsche challenged the foundations of the very Christianity of his parents (he was raised Lutheran). He also challenged traditional morality. Known as one of the first existential philosophers, he was concerned with the power of the individual and the world that we live in - rather than the uncertain other world beyond. Quite popular with the avant garde, Nietzsche felt that we should all honestly question those standard parts of life that drain our energies - no matter how popular and prevalent those doctrines and practices might be.

The Dance of Death with 41 Woodcuts - Reprint of the Unabridged 1538 Edition
Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman
More Reprints & Reproduction Facsimiles
Hans Holbein the Younger (1497-1543), best known now for his insightful portrait paintings, was better known in his own time for his varied and extensive graphic works, the most celebrated of them all was this - The Dance of Death. This work, from the woodblocks of collaborator Hans Lützelburger, was first published in book form in 1538.
We were stunned by the connection of such an old work and the works featuring the Days of the Dead today. We're also taken by the similarities between this theme and the themes in Alan Lightman's Einstein's Dreams.
The theme of the dance of death was a popular one of the 16th century. Holbein captured the feeling of death, the leveler, in its attack on all classes, both sexes and all ages. A stylized skeleton snatches the child from his mother's breast. The skeleton snatches, plays, tugs and cavorts throughout the rest of the book. The King, the Emperor, the Pope, the Cardinal must cease from their functions. The skull is thrust into the face of the astrologer. The hourglass runs out on the floor. Countess, Nun, Sailor, Pedlar, Senator are all stopped by the common force. 41 finely cut, highly detailed woodcuts capture the one motif - Memento mori - "Remember, you will die." Although the them is common, the variety of expressions, social groups, backgrounds, styles of dress, and architecture and calls to death are so varied that each one is unique in its power.
This edition is a reprinting of the unabridged 1538 edition. Besides the woodcuts, the book contains a prefatory letter y Jean de Vauzèle and various quotations, depictions and meditations on death, deaths of men and the necessity of death. A repeated series of the 41 woodblocks follows the reprinted work and contains English translations of the quotations and verses. Art historians and social historians will find this to be one of the best depictions of class life caught at its fateful moment. The collector will find this to be the finest reproduction of one of Holbein's major works.
Unabridged, unaltered reproduction of the 1538 edition of Les simulachres & historiees faces de la mort. The introduction is by W. L. Gundersheimer and English translations have also been added to this wonderful paperbound volume of 146 pages. It measures 5-3/8 by 8-1/2 inches.

Large Terra Cotta Wheel
More Collage & Altered Art
We're not quite sure what we should write about this unique hand-formed clay piece. Made of natural terra cotta, each wheel is completely different from the next and can be used in lots of different ways: pencil holder, display stand or to hold a small bouquet of dried flowers.
You might also choose to incorporated it into a special jewelry piece. However, these are weighty - from 2 to 4 ounces each. They are raw terra cotta and before you use them, you might want to finish them with varnish or another protectant.
Each one measures approximately 2-1/2 to 3 inches in diameter and about 3/4 thick. The center hole is about 3/8 inch.
Four of these would make great wheels for a Fred Flintstone vehicle.

Self-Working Rope Magic
For centuries, rope tricks have been the staples of the magician's repertoire. Surprisingly, many of the best ones are "self-working," meaning they do not require unusual dexterity or long hours of practice. This excellent guidebook, written by one of today's foremost authorities on magic, presents 70 of the best, most amazing self-working rope tricks ever devised - tricks that amateur magicians can master in a short time.
After a brief introduction and a section devoted to acquiring and preparing the proper ropes, Karl Fulves begins the book by introducing rope tricks based on simple overhand knots, slip knots and square knots. These are followed by such tricks as the Vishnu Rope Mystery and the Hindu Turban Mystery in the chapter entitled Cut-and-Restored Rope. In Ropes That Think, he demonstrates such fascinating maneuvers as Liar's Ropes and Séance. You'll also learn how to do a one-hand figure eight, perform a double-ring ceremony and present each routine with a professional flourish.
This fun publication is easy to read and follow and is loaded with illustrations (423 in all) by Joseph K Schmidt. It is a paperbound book with 160 pages, measuring 5-3/8 by 8-1/2 inches.

Sheet of 31 Golden Dresdens - Good Luck & More
More Good Luck
What a lovely sheet of little Dresdens. The 31 designs include: 4 birds (we'll call them crows, of course) and 3 each of the rest: four-leaf clovers, crosses, crowns, scarabs (beetles), cherubs (or angels), pretty bows, butterflies and wasps (or bees).
These are lightweight highly embossed golden Dresdens just waiting for you to trim them - to use in your crafts and other artwork. Long used for embellishing ornaments and glued to other paper scraps and decoupage projects, these wonderful motifs are even more special because they are golden - the traditional color of many of ornaments of the Victorian period.
The embossing on these reliefs is superb, as is the cutting. These are new but are made in the same fashion as they have been for many, many decades! Each sheet measures 7-1/4 by 3-1/4 inches. Of course, because these are all different images, the sizes vary, but the average size is about 1/2 inch by 1 inch.

Hand-Made Tin Cricket Ornament
Crickets have long been considered good luck throughout many cultures. Many believe a cricket means impending rainfall, particularly during a drought. Others believe that a financial windfall is about to arrive.
Though closely related to the grasshopper, the cricket bears none of its cousin's bad manners or bad karma - the grasshopper being hasty, lazy and even fickle.
In Mexico, there are even cricket races. And some people, as in Asia, keep them as pets.
The ornament is embossed and hand-cut, then tinted by hand, so each is slightly different than the next. It measures approximately 5-1/4 inches long by 3 inches high.
This interesting tin ornament has been created by Mexican artisans in the old tradition and then hand painted or adorned. The tin is embossed and debossed for effect and this helps to make the cricket appear as though s/he is already gracefully moving.

Reversible Saint Patrick & Saint Bridget Medal
More Travel & Transportation
More Saint Patrick and Things of Ireland
Saint Patrick was actually born on the British mainland and then kidnapped and shipped to Ireland as a slave, working in the mountains as a shepherd. Saint Patrick is often associated with driving the snakes from Ireland. While it is true that there are no snakes in Ireland, this may be more mythical, representing his effort in converting the Irish.
Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland and of many individual churches and dioceses throughout the United States. He is patron to those in fear of snakes (ophidiophobics), those who have been bitten by snakes, and of excluded people, and of engineers.
Saint Bridget (aka, St. Brigid) was a great lover of the poor. She was born to a Lord of Ireland, who arranged a marriage for her. Determined to create a life of devotion to God, she pled her case to the bishop who arranged for her to take her vows quickly. She was quite beautiful and it is said that she denounced her beauty and prayed to have it taken from her so that no man would be attracted to her. Her prayers were answered until her vows were taken - and then she re-gained her beauty. Some say that Saint Patrick himself was the bishop who heard her final vow.
Saint Bridget is that Patron Saint of Travelers as she set up so many convents throughout Ireland despite the terrible conditions of the 5th and 6th centuries when she live. She is also patron to babies, fugitives and sailors.
Our lovely medal is made of silvery metal in Italy.

Old-Time Edwardian Reproduction Paper Mask: The Flu
More Masks More Get Well
From about 1901 (right after the Victorian period) up to about 1910, or even as late as 1918 (after World War I), British society suffered a very rigid system, despite the new philosophies and politics floating about. The want (and need) for more liberal thought and a move for greater social acceptance of all British started despite the seemingly unmovable morés at the time.
The Edwardian Period was also known as the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), a time for elegant masquerade balls with gorgeous gowns and absurd masks such as this, our out older doctor with a reflective monocle.
This mask arrives flat and is simple to wear with black ribbon on either side for securing your mask. It measures about 10-1/2 inches.
You certainly won't want to get anywhere near this sick fellow, that's for sure!

Gorgeous Vintage Aquamarine Glass Intaglio Cabochon of the Taj Mahal
More Valentines & Hearts
This lovely transparent aquamarine glass intaglio cabochon features an image of the Taj Mahal that has then been highlighted with a silver foil application. The piece measures 11/16 inches on all sides and features faceted rounded corners. The depth of the piece is just a smidgen over 1/4 inch. The image is lovely on either side, but glorious on the aqua side, which would normally be considered the top, which is smooth. The underside has been cut to create the intaglio and then foiled with silver for the reflective effect.
The Taj Mahal is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world by all cultures. Built as a memorial and mausoleum for the third (and favorite) wife of Shah Jahan in Agra, India, the building took over 16 years to complete. Mumtaz died during the birth of their 14th child, Gauhara Begam. The grounds and out buildings took another 5 years to complete.
Built in 1632 by Shah Jahan in Agra, India, it is a memorial and the mausoleum for his third (and favorite) wife, Mumtaz. She died during the birth of their 14th child, Gauhara Begam.
Long associated with deep and everlasting love, the Taj Mahal has become endeared to many around the world.
Intaglios are engraved, pressed or incised into gemstones or glass. The design is carved or pressed into the surface, and sinks below the surface. It is the opposite of a cameo - where the background is carved away, leaving the design as a relief on top. Intaglios have been made since Babylonian times and were used in printmaking as well as in jewelry.
Two intaglios are shown to illustrate front and back.

Mexican Sugar Skull Molds - Mini Traditional
Sugar Skulls are a traditional folk art from Central and southern Mexico. They are customarily used in Day of the Dead celebrations. Local village open air markets offer mounds of colorful sugar skulls for sale during the week preceding the Day of the Dead. Now you can make your own Mini Traditional Sugar Skulls. The final skulls measure approximately 1-1/2 inch high by 1-1/4 inch wide and about 3/4 inch thik. Finished skulls will be flat-backed.
Our traditional mini mold is great for chocolate or soap as the intricate details are harder to decorate, but the traditional sugar mixture works well in either mold.
Instructions included. Finished skull not included.

Vampire Nights Stained Glass Coloring Book
Despite the unusual characteristics that set them apart of humans, vampires are not necessarily the evil and bloodthirsty monsters as they are sometimes portrayed. The teenaged vampires featured here are just like most of us. They are trying to fin in at school, going on dates and yet they are still true to their Vampire heritage.
Vampires of today don't just want blood - they crave the friendship and romance of the mortals who live by day, too! These 16 stained glass images portray hip, young party animals from the dark side and the dark of night in dramatic, contemporary situations: dancing in clubs, rocking with guitars, driving sleek sports cars, haunting city streets by night and more. Each page is perforated for easy removal and display.
You can color the illustrations with crayon, felt-tip pen, acrylic, watercolor, tempera or oil paint. If you mix your coloring methods, you will get a more interesting effect. You can color one side or both to produce rich combinations. If you color only one side, face the colored side on a window facing outdoors to produce a crisper outline.
Vintage Hand Embroidered Scapular of Saint Anthony
This vintage devotional scapular features a black and white printed image of Saint Anthony, that patron of lost things and lost souls. Many a time, we prayed to Saint Anthony, as children when we lost our pencils or homework on the way to school.
Vintage Slide Box of Red Listo Leads No. 162
The Listo Pencil Corporation opened in 1921. They created a wonderful, manual, refillable marker - to write on any surface. They still make such a refillable marker. These leads are still made today. Our boxes of leads, however, are vintage - probably from the mid-20th century. We're not sure that they will fit the newer pens, but we suspect they will. We love the graphical box and even the way it opens.
The top reads:
LISTO LEADS RED No. 162
The bottom reads:
LISTO LEADS • LISTO PENCIL CORPORATION ALAMEDA,CALIF. MADE IN U.S.A.
Each long side of the outer box reads:
MARKING LEADS
The inner box reads (upside down) on one end:
TO OPEN PUSH OPPOSITE END
If you happen to push this, the wrong end, instead of the other, the inner box reads:
STOP PUSH IN
The other side reads:
PUSH IN
When you push it through the outer box, a little flap appears, that reads:
PULL OUT THIS FLAP
Underneath are the leads. If you push it to far, another flap reads:
STOP
But our favorite part is the bottom of the inner box. If you open it upside down, it reads on one end:
STOP - Turn over
and on the other
TURN OVER
There are 6 leads inside for the grease marker, aka china marker. The leads will write on any surface - even under water. It will wipe off any slick, non-porous surface, like glass with just a dry cloth. We used to use these on transparencies in our other life in a major corporation. They are non-toxic.
Newer boxes aren't as sweet as this one and hold 12 leads. We like this 6-lead version and everything about it. The actual box measures 1-1/2 inch long (length of the leads) by 1 inch wide by 5/16 inch deep.
If you don't keep it for the collectible nature, you might choose to make a wonderful tiny box shrine!

Fables of Aesop with 50 Drawings by Alexander Calder
More Stuff for Kids
This wonderful volume brings into general circulation for the first time a rare edition of Aesop's Fables issued in Paris in 1931 and limited to only 665 copies. The book combines the 1692 translation of the Fables by English journalist Sir Roger L'Estrange with 50 drawings created especially as illustration for the tales by famed American sculptor, painter and illustrator Alexander Calder.
L'Estrange's 17th-century rendering of the fables is a delight to read, judged by The Cambridge History of English Literature "the best that we have." Calder's art needs no special introduction: his widely displayed "mobiles" and "stabiles" have won him international popularity. The drawings Calder executed for this book rank among his most imaginative creations.
Two hundred and one of the traditional fables are narrated here, including such all-time favorites as:
A Hare and a Tortoise A Fox and Grapes A Lyoness and a Fox A City Mouse and a Country Mouse A Swallow and a Crow (our favorite, of course) A Fox and a Raven (another favorite)
and more
An entertaining volume for general readers, prized by literature students and art lovers alike, this is a book that should appeal to practically everybody.
This is an unabridged, unaltered republication of the first (1931) edition. There is a new publisher's note. The 124 pages boast 50 drawings by Alexander Calder. It measures 6-1/2 by 9-1/4 inches.
