We just love letterpress cards and letters. The elegance of vintage stationery is all but forgotten. We're simply delighted that some smaller companies are offering the same high-quality papers and designs with a modern touch - so we can offer them to you! The simple design represents the simple sentiment so well. And, of course, because it is letterpress, you can feel the letters with your fingers.

We are so very fond of William Shakespeare, mostly for his sonnets. So very many wonderful everyday phrases have come from these and his plays as well:

How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

-The Merchant of Venice, Act V, scene i
(Shakespeare)

Even Willie Wonka has paraphrased the Bard, and SilverCrow offers a rubber stamp that of Mr. Wonka's quote, as well - So shines a good deed stamp (D2568)?

So shines a good deed...

The 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch size is large enough for a love letter and small enough for a shy missive to your beloved. This fine note card is accompanied by a matching envelope and is printed by hand on an antique letterpress with soy ink on 100% post-consumer recycled cardstock.

makes heaven drowsy
with HARMONY.

- Shakespeare

With love. . .

More Shakespeare

Illustrator Tom Tierney has dressed the characters in this comedy classic - Oberon, King of the Fairies; the mischievous Puck, Moth and Peaseblossom - in apparel of Shakespeare's time. Lovely, diaphanous robes comprise wardrobed for the lovely Titania, Queen of the Fairies; and for the charming woodland fairy figures - Hyssop, Sweet Violet, Chickweed and Woodbine, who can be dressed in flowing gowns designed to reflect the forest's wild flora.

Like the play, which makes use of fairies and magic spells, this lovely collection of intriguing characters and their imaginatively rendered costumes will enchant Shakespeare devotees, fairy tale enthusiasts and paper doll fans of all ages.

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream was first performed at a society wedding celebration in Elizabethan England at which Elizabeth I was the guest of honor. Because Queen Elizabeth was often referred to as the Fairy Queen by poets of her court as well as many of her subjects, it was only natural for Shakespeare to weave a fairy motif into his play. This masterwork has been the inspiration for many subsequent operas, ballets and paintings. In fact, Mendelssohn's Wedding March was written for a 19th century production of the work - and this remains one of the most popular wedding marches ever written!

Included are 9 dolls and 14 plates of costumes. The paperbound volume includes 32 pages and measures 9-1/4 by 12-1/4 inches.

More Shakespeare

This elegant folder of games was a favorite amusement during the 19th century was the creation and deciphering of rebus puzzles. The word rebus is Latin for by things. A rebus is composed of pictures that suggest the syllables of the word they represent.

Hieroglyphical Signatures is a reproduction of a mid-19th century rebus series created by J.T. Hart. The beautiful ribbon-tied portfolio holds six individual sheets containing hundreds of delicate miniature illustrations depicting the names of composers, musicians, vocalists, chorus singers and theatrical performer. The original plates have been recreated as found with some of the illustrations having been deftly hand-colored while others were left charmingly monochromatic. The seventh sheet is the original key for solving each of the rebus puzzles!

Among these enigmatic representations, you'll find the names of many renowned personalities such as Beethoven, Chopin and, of course, Shakespeare. There are also many names of those who were very popular contemporaries of the mid 1800s who are now less well known.

Historians will find this game most challenging, while the exquisite drawings provide inspiration to those with a creative eye.

More Kids' Stuff

This hilariously readable collection of classic nonsense poetry, delightfully illustrated throughout, is a showcase of comic talent and sheer silliness.

The Everyman Book of Nonsense Verse features an eclectic spectrum of contributors ranging wildly from Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll to Hilaire Belloc, Ted Hughes, Ogden Nash, and Shakespeare, with illustrations by Mervyn Peake, Quentin Blake, Emma Chichester Clark, Spike Milligan, and the deliciously sinister Edward Gorey.

Such old favorites as The Owl and the Pussycat are accompanied by Macavity: The Mystery Cat and Jabberwocky, while Ted Hughes’s Wodwo sits alone by the bank of a stream in a state of innocence and curiosity that mirrors a child’s sense of wonder at the universe. Whether sweetly funny or deliciously naughty, these masterpieces of the art of the absurd will charm readers both young and old.

The fine cloth binding is accompanied by a silken ribbon self-bookmark, making it look like it costs substantially more - so perfect when gift-giving! This classic measures 8-3/10 by 6-1/5 inches, with 256 pages and a substantial number of black and white illustrations.
