Icon Style Holy Cards - Triumph Over Death (Anastasis) - Package of 5
More Holy Cards & Trading Cards
More Sympathy
We were quite taken with these wonderful icon-style prints - the detail is gorgeous and the printing superb.
This icon on this card depicts the Descent into Hell - Jesus' gift of paradise to those who waited in the abode of the dead before the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus is dressed in the white robe of resurrection. He calls Adam and Eve forth from their tombs, while at His feet, the shattered gates of hell and their keys fall into the abyss.
This icon is in the traditional Byzantine icon style and was created by Sister Marie-Paul Farran.
These lovely holy cards are a bit lighter weight than some others we offer, but the printing is absolutely outstanding. They are a convenient size for use as gifts or bookmarks - measuring 3-1/8 by 4-5/8 inches on heavy cream-colored paper. The back is blank except for a faint colophon at the bottom, leaving plenty of room for custom imprinting with your own message, or a place to write a note to a friend, or to inscribe an appropriate prayer

Sometimes when one person is missing...
Quoting Lamartine, this poignant card reflects the feeling of emptiness that we all have suffered after a loss. At first we thought it only a card for sympathy, but, after further consideration, we think it entirely appropriate for an empty nest, a divorce and more:
sometimes when one person is missing, the whole world seems depopulated.

Art Postcard - The Lost Chord
More Postcards
More Music
Arthur Sullivan (of the famed Gilbert and Sullivan) composed the music for The Lost Chord as he sat at his brother Fred's beside, during his last days. The words were written by Adelaide A. Proctor. Known for its grandeur and eloquence, The Lost Chord is often represented by the young woman playing the the pipe organ with a choir of angels accompanying her.
Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease, And my fingers wandered idly Over the noisy keys; I know not what I was playing, Or what I was dreaming then, But I struck one chord of music, Like the sound of a great Amen, Like the sound of a great Amen.
It flooded the crimson twilight, Like the close of an angel’s psalm, And it lay on my fevered spirit, With a touch of infinite calm, It quieted pain and sorrow, Like love overcoming strife, It seemed the harmonious echo From our discordant life, It linked all the perplexed meanings Into one perfect peace, And trembled away into silence, As if it were loath to cease; I have sought but I seek it vainly, That one lost chord divine, Which came from the soul of the organ, And entered into mine.
It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be that only in Heav’n I shall hear that great Amen. It may be that death’s bright angel Will speak in that chord again; It may be that only in Heav’n I shall hear that great Amen

Every heart leaves behind an impulse...A Note of Condolence
More Sympathy and Condolence
Graphic Artist Janeen Koconis created this elegant note card that just might be the perfect one for expressing condolences. There is never an easy way and rarely do we have the right words to say. Her elegant artwork accompanies the special sentiment from Adlai Stevenson:
Every heart that has beat strong and cheerfully has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world.
Let the memory of this human being fill your heart forever.
The designer believes that a greeting card is not frivolous, rather, the opposite - that it has utility: a card can be a handshake or a kiss.
