More Saint Patrick and Things of Ireland
More Babies
Saint Patrick was actually born on the British mainland and then kidnapped and shipped to Ireland as a slave, working in the mountains as a shepherd. Saint Patrick is often associated with driving the snakes from Ireland. While it is true that there are no snakes in Ireland, this may be more mythical, representing his effort in converting the Irish.
Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland and of many individual churches and dioceses throughout the United States. He is patron to those in fear of snakes (ophidiophobics), those who have been bitten by snakes, and of excluded people, and of engineers.
Saint Bridget (aka, St. Brigid) was a great lover of the poor. She was born to a Lord of Ireland, who arranged a marriage for her. Determined to create a life of devotion to God, she pled her case to the bishop who arranged for her to take her vows quickly. She was quite beautiful and it is said that she denounced her beauty and prayed to have it taken from her so that no man would be attracted to her. Her prayers were answered until her vows were taken - and then she re-gained her beauty. Some say that Saint Patrick himself was the bishop who heard her final vow.
Saint Bridget is that Patron Saint of Travelers as she set up so many convents throughout Ireland despite the terrible conditions of the 5th and 6th centuries when she live. She is also patron to babies, fugitives and sailors.

This fun pin created quite the controversy here at SilverCrow. We moved it around every which way until we finally discovered that it was a Moderne stylized representation of a motorcyclist in cool green metal. Some of the color has faded, but all of the pins are a very striking green.
These pins are from the 1950s and were meant for sale in 5 and 10 cent stores such as Murphy's, Ben Franklin and Woolworths. We love them for embellishment and just for the memories!!
Not for children.

More Transportation & Travel
These wonderful seals were issued by railroad companies for over a century to help fund the rail roads. These particular coupons or seals were issued in the 1970s and arrive in folded, but uncut sets of 5 seals. Each seal has a different serial number and the seals are for different dollar amounts.
The common information reads:
ON THE FIRST DAY OF AUG. 1978
THE NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY, SUCCESSFULLY CONSOLIDATED TO THE NEW YORK CENTRAL AND HUDSON RIVER RAILROAD COMPANY
WILL PAY TO THE BEARER, AT ITS OFFICE OR AGENCY IN THE BOROUGH OF MANHATTAN CITY OF NEW YORK $20 GOLD COIN OF THE UNITED STATES, WITHOUT DEDUCTION FOR TAXES SPECIFIED IN THE BOND BEING SIX MONTHS INTEREST TEN DUE ON ITS FOUR PER CENT. CONSOLIDATION MORTGAGE GOLD BOND, SERIES A No.25419.
These were created by the American Bank Note Company of New York. The dates are listed through the 1990s, but were created in the 1970s. The numbers, dates and the amounts will vary per set and from set to set.
Typically these coupons or seals were cut and redeemed for the face amount. We believe these to be worthless in terms of exchange. However, they are wonderful pieces of ephemera. Who knows, maybe they're real after all!

Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) Coin-Style Charm

More Journeys
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) in 1943. It is beloved even more today than when it was written. Ostensibly a children's book, there are so many instances in the writings that might be meant for adults to learn - perhaps to be young again.
This sweet little charm pays homage to the little prince. It has been modeled after a coin. In fact the back of the charm reads,
DOS PESOS
The front features the Little Prince himself in all his finery. It reads:
Le Petit Prince 1989
There is some roughness on this charm, creating the illusion that it might have traveled to earth with the young boy - or at least on a long interesting journey.
The charm is finished in an antiqued gold or bronze and measures 7/8 inch high - including the loop and 11/16 inch wide.

Each VooDoo Baby is hand-writhed from a single string of cotton thread. Amazingly, there is no wire inside the doll to support the structure. The creation of each VooDooBaby takes not only excellent artisanship, but also a great deal of attention, patience and care. They are an expression of imagination, creativity and appreciation and are not for real and possess no curse effect whatsoever - but wouldn't it be nice if they could?

Such young boys with dreams adrift were not uncommon in Victorian times. The sea may still be in the blood of some such lads, but it is far to easy to reach the foreign lands of dreams today. These cool transparent compasses are ungraduated (they have no markings). That means you can add your own. Consider labeling these in all different ways - perhaps with ME, YOU, THEM, NOBODY, instead of North, South, East and West. Or, what ever you can imagine.
These are 3/4 inch in diameter and open up so that you can add your own directions. Be careful so that you don't loose the little needle or pointer when you take them apart. We found it best to use tweezers to reposition the pointer after opening. How much fun can you have with these? Make up your own game, specialty jewelry and more. Each compass is flat-backed for easy gluing.
These are magnetic compasses - so they really work, but you'll not know what direction they indicate unless you use another compass to determine it. Please don't use this for real positioning unless you really know what you're doing.

Packet of 3 Vintage Train Station Flash Cards
Before there were electronic memorization tools and scheduling systems, the station managers and clerks along the railways had to memorize stations, schedules and stops just to do their jobs. These cards list trains, stations and stops and were created for the novice to learn the ropes. Some even have notes jotted in pencil on either side. Although we don't recognize most of the place names, we believe them to be in Pennsylvania. The cards are roughly the size of business cards: 3-1/8 inches by 1-11/16 inch.

Happy Trails to You (Hand-Pressed Token)
More Pocket Tokens
THE WONDER OF IT ALL Pocket Token
At a carnival in the 1950s, I made one of these wonderful tokens on a very special mechanical device. After thinking for what seemed to be ages of just the right sentiment, I impressed my name.
I fell in love with mechanical - non computerized - machines and treasure every old fashioned one I find. Although we don't have our own impression machine, our buddy, Tom, does and he made this wonderful token for us:
HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU
We think these as wonderful wedding souvenir, or for retirement, graduation and just about any day you want to wish anyone well!
These machines are no longer manufactured, but you can find them few and far between at old-time amusement parks and other special places.
Each token is made one-at-a-time - and - get this - Tom has to impress one-character-at-a-time! Amazing!
Add a simple ball chain key chain or necklace to compliment that old-fashioned feeling.
Each silvery token measures about 1-1/4 inch in diameter and features a four-leaf clover or horseshoe in the center, surrounded by the words:
GOOD LUCK

Vintage Eastern Airlines Wings

Vintage Junior Pilot Wings
From around 1960, these wonderful wing pins were originally given away to children flying on Eastern Airlines to make the flight a bit more fun. Never used, the pins are made of heavy hard plastic, allowing them to hold up a bit better. These are from the collection of a former Eastern Airlines employee. Each pin measures 2-5/8 inches wide.
Eastern Airlines was a prominent carrier in its time. Originating in 1926, the airline suffered bankruptcy in 1991, without reorganizing and never recovered.
Because these are old-store stock, we do not know the origin or content of the materials, so, please use caution with children.

Shall We Dance? Notecard
More Note Cards
Book by Susan Mrosek
Susan Mrosek is the astonishing artist of these absolutely wonderful cards! Ah! Romance! The sentiment reads,
"Shall we dance?" he inquired, removing his hat. He was tall, thin and hollowly attractive. I said yes, and from that moment on, centered my attention on Samuel's feet. The dance never ended...we made it all the way to Beijing.
The wonderful print of the watercolor painting illustrates this so very expressively on the notecard, which of course is accompanied by an envelope.

We love Michael Sowa's artwork. With a bit of whimsy mixed with philosophy and thoughtfulness, he often provides us with sleepless nights - just wondering what the story behind them image might be!
From the imaginative mind of artist Michael Sowa, this implausible quartet of German Shepherds appears to be lost at see in a slight rowboat without any paddles. Just what are they doing?
Wouldn't this make a great card for a short Bon Voyage note? Or, a note for a sailor, dog lover, water baby or anyone?
Sowa's art evokes wonder and amazement; a mix of surrealism and comic illustration, of humor and seriousness.

As you walk through the valley of unclaimed baggage, you will have more confidence once you have given your bags the extra edge of protection from above. St Anthony, the Patron Saint of Lost Objects, has you covered. Never travel without him! Our St Anthony luggage tag is sewn from genuine leather with a heavy cast metal medallion of St. Anthony and foil-embossed prayer on the back:

Old-Time Aviator Reproduction Paper Mask
More Masks More Hallowe'en
From about 1901 (right after the Victorian period) up to about 1910, or even as late as 1918 (after World War I), British society suffered a very rigid system, despite the new philosophies and politics floating about. The want (and need) for more liberal thought and a move for greater social acceptance of all British started despite the seemingly unmovable morés at the time.
The Edwardian Period was also known as the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), a time for elegant masquerade balls with gorgeous gowns and absurd masks such as this, our out older aviator.
The mask arrives flat and is simple to wear with black ribbon on either side for securing your mask. It measures about 10-1/2 inches.

Vintage Jiggers Soldering Kit
More Kits
More Stuff for Dads
This is so cool. It is a full box of an after-market soldering kit that was made in the 1950s for Chevrolet, Chevy Truck, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick, GMC, Ford Flathead V-8, Model A T, MOPAR (Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge and Desoto), Hudson, Kaiser-Frazer, Nash, Packard, Studebaker, and Willys-Jeep.
Each vintage 1-7/8 inch square box contains 6 jiggers. It was a simple solution for those doing their own car repairs way back when!
To complete the soldering job, the mechanic (amateur or pro) pinched of the top of the jigger. Then s/he inserted spliced wires into the jigger, lit it with a match, and presto! the wires were soldered together.
These originally sold for 35¢ per box. This unused old store stock was delightfully discovered in an old car repair shop. What a great gift for someone repairing a vintage car, truck, jalopy or even a motorcycle!

Reproduction Parchment - Map of the World in 1651
Geographical Map Inspired Rubber Stamps
How wonderful this reproduction map would be in a special frame - or even for wrapping paper. This reproduction historical document is created with a proprietary 11-step process to make it look and feel old. We love these documents not just for their intended decorative value, but to use as gift wrap, or to write on the reverse side - a love letter perhaps!

Barbara Kruger: Untitled (Admit nothing- Blame everyone - Be bitter), 1987
Be certain to check out the Close-Up of this one!
Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist whose roots are in media and design. Her edgy collages are derived from found photographs (mostly culled from the sources she most derides in her work). Subsequent layers display her epigrams, pithy and arrogantly assertive.
Her tongue-in-cheek style is at once humorous and contemplative, sarcastic and true. This is certainly evident on this finely made art postcard print.
This is SilverCrow's favorite of her works!
Art Postcard - Der Flug (The Flight)
More Heavens and the Celestial
This wonderfully moving painting by German artist Quint Buchholz shows a flock of crows with a stranger amongst them. Trenchcoat flowing, our other flyer appears to be a human.
If only it were truly possible to fly, as in our dreams, be they by day or night. The soaring pleasure abounds in this lovely image.

St Christopher Medal
Saint Christopher has long been known as the protector and well known as a patron of the traveler. His legend is mighty: As a powerfully built man, he was enamoured with the world and set off in search of adventure. At one point during his journey, he came upon a hermit who assisted people across a treacherous stream. He decided to also assist these people, but instead of leading them across, he carried them on his sturdy shoulders.
One day he carried a small child across the stream. Although it was just a child, the weight nearly crushed him. When they arrived on the other side, the child revealed himself as Christ, and he was so heavy because he bore the weight of the world.
Two medals shown for illustration.
